NFLPA Investigating Geno Smith's Recruitment To Jay-Z's Agency

Sep 3, 2014 9:58 PM

The NFLPA is investigating the recruitment of Geno Smith to Jay-Z's Roc Nation agency.

The recently instituted "runner rule" prohibits agents from having colleagues or friends who aren't NFLPA certified agents present for recruiting meetings.

Earlier this week, Smith's adviser John Thornton, a former NFL defensive tackle, was quoted by CBS as saying "I was in those meetings, and Jay-Z connected with him on many levels." Thornton later said he was misquoted.

Smith posted a picture of Jay-Z and himself during his re-recruitment process.

Brett Favre has settled a lawsuit filed by two massage therapists who claimed he sent text messages to them in a sexual nature.

Christina Scavo and Shannon O'Toole had alleged in a lawsuit seeking unspecified damages that in 2008, they lost their part-time jobs after complaining of Favre's text messages.

Favre allegedly sent another woman a text message asking to get together with her and Scavo, followed by another text saying, "I guess I have bad intentions."

Jaworski Sincere About Arena Football League Offer To Tebow

Nov 2, 2014 3:17 PM

Ron Jaworski is interested in signing Tim Tebow on his Philadelphia Soul team in the Arena Football League.

Jaworski first reached out to Tebow the day after he was released by the New York Jets in April and has yet to hear back.

“I love the guy,” Jaworski said. “I want him here just for his leadership.”

Tebow has yet to find a team to remain in the NFL and the team that owns his Canadian Football League rights is only offering a backup position.

“I know Tim’s in a funk right now,” Jaworski said. “But I think he’s got to have a career path. What’s he going to do to get back?”

Jets Offer Coaching Intern Position To David Garrard

Oct 31, 2014 5:28 AM

David Garrard's knee was bone on bone as he struggled to workout last week with the New York Jets before deciding to retire.

"I couldn't jog most days," Garrard said. "I could barely walk around without it hurting. And we weren't even in the strenuous part of camp yet. I figured, 'No way I can just take every fourth day off.' I went to see Rex [Ryan], and I just told him I didn't think I could do it. He didn't want to hear it. But I just told him what the doctor said -- it's only going to get worse. And that was it."

Garrard was signed by the Jets in order to compete with Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith at quarterback.

The Jets have offered Garrard a position as a coaching intern at training camp.

Garrard Leaves Jets Due To Knee Issues

David Garrard and the New York Jets have parted ways.

"Having to call it quits," said Garrard in a text. "My knee is not holding up. Continuing to swell after practices. Limiting what I can do."

Garrard was expected to be in the mix at quarterback due to the uncertain future of Mark Sanchez with the team and whether Geno Smith would be ready to start in Week 1.

Jets To Hire Rod Graves For Front Office Position

Oct 31, 2014 5:32 AM

Rod Graves will join the New York Jets' front office in a capacity that has yet to be determined.

Graves was general manager of the Arizona Cardinals from 2003 through 2012.

John Idzik, general manager of the Jets, worked under Graves with the Cardinals. Both were ball boys with the Philadelphia Eagles.

"He's probably one of the brightest guys I've ever worked with," Graves told the New York Post when Idzik was hired as Jets GM, "in terms of dealing with rosters and players and the finance behind player salaries and so forth."

Idzik is known as a contract executive, while Graves' expertise is in scouting.

Jets 'Smitten' With Geno Smith After Mini-Camp

Sep 16, 2014 12:51 AM

The New York Jets are already 'smitten' with what they have seen from Geno Smith during rookie mini-camp.

Smith had good velocity on his throws and he held players’ only meetings at the team hotel to learn the plays. Smith also handled the media like a veteran.

If Smith continues to impress as he did over the weekend, the Jets will likely start him in Week 1.

Tebow Struggling To Find Job Due To 'Circus'

Oct 31, 2014 5:33 AM

Tim Tebow is a cottage industry unto himself in the media, which is responsible for his inability to find an NFL job as much as it is his questionable mechanics at quarterback.

"He seems like a great guy to have on a team, and I'd be tempted to bring him in as our backup," one NFC head coach said on Wednesday. "But it's just not worth dealing with all the stuff that comes with it."

"You don't want to put up with the circus," said an AFC head coach.
