CFL's Alouettes Open To Signing Tim Tebow As Backup QB

Dec 1, 2014 7:24 PM

The Montreal Alouettes own the draft rights of Tim Tebow in the Canadian Football League.

The Alouettes have Anthony Calvillo as their starter at quarterback, but the franchise is open to signing Tebow as their backup.

"He would be in a learning program behind Anthony," the source said.

Montreal would give Tebow an opportunity to practice and develop as a quarterback, an option that is not readily available to him in the NFL.

Tebow was released by the Jets on Monday.

Jets Release Tim Tebow

Oct 31, 2014 6:36 AM

The New york Jets have released Tim Tebow.

The Jets traded for Tebow last offseason, sending a third round pick to the Denver Broncos.

"We have a great deal of respect for Tim Tebow," Rex Ryan said in a statement. "Unfortunately, things did not work out the way we all had hoped. Tim is an extremely hard worker, evident by the shape he came back in this offseason. We wish him the best moving forward.”

The Jets cleared about $1 million in salary cap space by releasing Tebow.

General manager John Idzik tried to trade Tebow for the past few months.

Mark Sanchez To Attend Monday's Voluntary Workout

Jul 1, 2014 8:49 PM

Mark Sanchez will attend Monday's voluntary workouts for the third week of the offseason program with the New York Jets, according to sources.

The Jets used a second round pick on Geno Smith, giving the team six quarterbacks on the roster in total.

No team would trade for Sanchez because of an $8.25 million base salary that is fully guaranteed.

Sanchez wouldn't be assured of becoming a starter anywhere else if he's released, meaning his best shot of starting remains with the Jets.

The Saints and Jets had been discussing an Ivory trade for more than a week.

Jets Taking Trade Calls On Two First Rounders

Oct 31, 2014 5:43 AM

The New York Jets are taking calls from rival teams that are interested in moving up in the 2013 NFL Draft.

The Jets, who are rebuilding this offseason, would presumably be interested in converting one of their first round picks into additional assets.

"I think the real substantive talks will come tomorrow," said general manager John Idzik. "I think we're in a position at No. 9 and No. 13 in the first round to get two really good players, but it also opens up the gates for potential alternatives, potentially trading down and picking up more players. We'll be open minded about it. This is a very deep draft."

Idzik said the Jets' decision would be based on "the talent available when we pick."

"Anyone can sit there and tell you to your face, 'Yeah, you're going to be a Jet.' But what's the truth out of it? What is really the truth?"
