Unhappy Kendall Reports To Camp

Nov 8, 2014 4:11 AM

Veteran guard Pete Kendall ripped the team for not honoring his request to be traded or released - a demand he originally made public during last month's minicamp and reiterated Friday - and first-round draft pick Darrelle Revis has yet to be signed and was not on the field for either of the first day's workouts. In neither case does a resolution seem imminent, and it places the Jets in the odd position of having a player who does not want to be here on the field and a player they want to be here off it. Mangini insisted neither situation will be a distraction - "We have a locker room full of professionals," he said - but they do represent the types of off-the-field diversions the team avoided in its playoff run a year ago.

Jets Add Running Back Tony Fisher, LB Mark Zalewski

Nov 15, 2014 9:24 PM

The Jets signed running back Tony Fisher and linebacker Mark Zalewski on Friday. Fisher, who spent last season with St. Louis after four years with Green Bay, should add depth to the Jets' running back corps. Cedric Houston left the team abruptly Thursday for personal reasons, leaving the Jets with just Thomas Jones, Leon Washington and undrafted rookies Danny Ware and Alvin Banks at the position at the start of training camp. Fisher made it in time to participate in the Jets' late practice Friday.

Curtis Martin Retires Fourth On NFL's Rushing List

Nov 8, 2014 4:11 AM

Jets running back Curtis Martin, fourth on the NFL's career rushing list, announced his retirement Thursday -- 19 months after playing his final game. The five-time Pro Bowl selection acknowledged in January that he had probably played his last game because of a bone-on-bone right knee injury suffered during the 2005 season. Martin made the long-anticipated decision official -- after months of rehabbing and deliberating -- a day before the Jets begin training camp practices. "I don't see this as a sad time," Martin said at a small, 45-minute news conference at the team's Manhattan offices, one of several stops on a whirlwind media tour. "Someone was just asking me if there's any moment in particular that sticks out as the best moment of my career, and I told them, 'Right now."'

Jets Sign Kicker Ayat, OT Cavka

Nov 15, 2014 9:24 PM

The Jets signed kicker Justin Ayat and tackle Marko Cavka on Tuesday. Ayat, a 2004 graduate of the U. of Hawaii, was successful on 191 of 209 extra-point attempts and converted 59 of 89 field-goal attempts, including a career-long 56-yarder. Cavka, selected by the Jets in the sixth round of the 2004 draft, rejoins New York after spending last year with the Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europa. He was inactive for all 16 games of the 2004 season, as well as both Jets playoff games.

Curtis Martin To Make Retirement Official

Aug 8, 2014 3:54 AM

The time for one of the greatest Jets of all to say goodbye has come. Curtis Martin will officially announce his retirement within the next two days, The Post has learned. The Jets are expected to make Martin's retirement official with a formal announcement before training camp begins. All players are due to report to Weeb Ewbank Hall on Thursday, with two-a-day practice sessions beginning Friday, meaning the likely day for his ceremonial final run is tomorrow. The time and place for Martin's formal goodbye has yet to be finalized, but it probably will take place in Manhattan.

Jets' Kendall Will Likely Be Released

Nov 16, 2014 10:22 AM

Pete Kendall, who's embroiled in a contract dispute with the Jets and has been very vocal about it, is a question mark at best to show up for training camp. He most likely will be released at some point, because the situation appears to have reached a point of no return. Kendall, the starting left guard, has been a mentor for left tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson and center Nick Mangold. That leaves the question not only who'll replace Kendall if he doesn't show and is released, but how that'll affect his line mates. Adrien Clarke worked in Kendall's spot in minicamp, but is not highly regarded around the league.
