Unnamed Team Hired Private Investigator To Follow Odell Beckham

Aug 27, 2018 10:10 PM

The New York Giants were "50-50" on their willingness to trade Odell Beckham Jr. last spring.

No team, however, met the Giants' asking price of two first round picks.

The Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers were the two teams most interested in Beckham, but there were others as well. One team hired a private investigator to track Beckham. The report of the private investigator set off no alarms.

The Giants signed Beckham to a five-year, $95 million extension on Monday.

Odell Beckham Jr. Agrees To Five-Year, $95M Extension With Giants

Aug 28, 2018 9:30 AM

The New York Giants and Odell Beckham Jr. have agreed to a five-year contract extension worth $95 million that will make him the highest paid wide receiver in the NFL. The deal includes $65 million in guaranteed money.

Beckham and the Giants both wanted to agree upon a new deal before the start of the season.

Beckham had 101 receptions for 1,367 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2016. Beckham was limited to just four games in 2017 due to a fractured ankle.

Deals for wide receivers in recent years had trailed the extension signed by Calvin Johnson in 2012.

Saquon Barkley is "coming along" after suffering a mild strain of his hamstring.

The Giants have called it a "tweak." Barkley said that if there were a playoff game today, you would see him on the field.

"To be completely honest, as a competitor I'd find a way," he said. "I want to play [Friday in a preseason game against Detroit]. I don't know what is in the game plan, to be completely honest. I just know I'm day-to-day and taking it step-by-step."

Davis Webb: Ben McAdoo Promised Me Starts That Never Came

Aug 8, 2018 8:01 AM

Davis Webb says Ben McAdoo promised him starts with the New York Giants last season that never came.

McAdoo, who was fired last season, broke Eli Manning's streak of 210 consecutive starts in the second half of the season but instead of going with Webb, Geno Smith started.

"Hey, the next three weeks, you're in," Webb says McAdoo told him.

Webb never got a chance to prove himself as the Giants played out a lost season.

"So I was ready to rock 'n' roll, and I was excited," he said. "But at the same time, that was a rough day because Eli's been the best teammate I've ever had. So I was really hurting for him."

Giants Valuing Odell Beckham Jr. Under Sammy Watkins' Contract

Aug 6, 2018 10:14 AM

The agent for Odell Beckham Jr. left New York without an extension in place after face-to-face meetings.

A team source told Anderson that agent Zeke Sandhu and the Giants worked diligently to consummate a deal but could not agree on Beckham's market value.

The Giants are valuing Beckham at below Sammy Watkins' $16 million annual average with the Kansas City Chiefs.

On Saturday, Beckham said at a news conference that his contract situation is trending in the right direction.

"Optimistic? Yeah. I'm optimistic," Beckham said. "I'm confident it will all work itself out. It always does."

Giants Open Extension Talks With Odell Beckham Jr.

Aug 2, 2018 9:24 AM

The New York Giants have opened contract talks with Odell Beckham Jr.

This came days after Giants owner John Mara admitted the two sides had not talked about a new deal, but that they would be speaking "sooner rather than later."

Beckham was forced to wait as 10 of the 12 wide receivers drafted in the first two rounds of his 2014 draft class received new deals within the past year.

Beckham is hoping to match or exceed Antonio Brown's $17 million per year and Mike Evans' $55 million in guarantees.

Beckham is set to play for $8.5 million on the fifth-year option of his rookie contract.
