Shaun O'Hara: Giants 'Wasted Eli Manning's Prime'

Jun 11, 2018 9:26 AM

The New York Giants won two Super Bowls with Eli Manning, but have struggled over the last six seasons.

One of Manning's former teammates, center Shaun O'Hara, believes the Giants have failed the quarterback.

"They've wasted the last few years of Eli's career, they've wasted his prime," O'Hara said. "It's been hard to sit and watch that happen. I'm glad to see that they found a way to correct it, but Eli can still play the game."

The Giants are 0-1 in the playoffs since winning Super Bowl XLVI.

"I agree with him," Justin Tuck said of O'Hara. "We all know what Eli can do when he is healthy and when he has comparable athletes around him. I don't think he had those. Anything other than that, you are just lying to yourself."

The Giants employed a dink-and-dunk offense under Ben McAdoo while relying on Odell Beckham Jr. to make a big play.

"I've been throwing the ball down the field a lot more. Every quarterback loves that," Manning said.

Manning averaged 5.51 air yards per pass, via Next Gen Stats, the fourth-lowest among qualifying players in 2017.

Dave Gettleman Undergoing Treatment For Lymphoma

Jun 5, 2018 12:49 PM

Dave Gettleman is being treated for lymphoma.

The New York Giants hired Gettleman as general manager this offseason.

“Recently, I underwent an annual physical, during which it was discovered I have lymphoma. Over the past week, I have undergone more testing to determine the course of treatment, which is scheduled to start in the very near future.

“The doctor’s outlook for the treatment and the prognosis is positive, and so am I.

“I will continue to work as much as the treatment process will allow, and as they know, when I am not in the office, I will be in constant communication with Pat (Shurmur), Kevin (Abrams) and the rest of our staff.

“I am thankful to John Mara and Steve Tisch and our organization for their support and encouragement, and to Ronnie Barnes for his guidance and assistance. And, of course, to my wife Joanne and our children for their love and support.

“And I want to thank you in advance for respecting my privacy and that of my family as we work our way through this. I look forward to being back at full strength and devoting all my energy to helping make this 2018 New York Giants team the best it can be.”
