Giants Won't Commit To Eli Manning For Week 10

Oct 30, 2018 4:26 PM

Pat Shurmur wouldn't fully commit to Eli Manning as the New York Giants' starting quarterback in Week 10.

The Giants have a bye this weekend before facing the San Francisco 49ers the following Monday night.

"We'll see," Shurmur said of Manning remaining the starter for that game. "But, yeah, I think Eli is our quarterback. I did say, again I know what you're all trying to tease a headline out of, at this point Eli is our quarterback and we're looking at all areas to improve. So that is where it's at."

Oct 24, 2018 7:48 AM

The New York Giants are not anticipating a trade of Eli Manning before the deadline.

"Yes, I do," Pat Shurmur said when asked if Manning will remain the Giants' starting quarterback. "I think Eli will be our quarterback. He has been and he will continue to be here. I don't know how that will play into the Eli Apple trade."

Manning has struggled badly this season.

Manning is still owed $5.6 million this season and has a no-trade clause in his contract.

Saints Acquire Eli Apple From Giants For 4th Rounder

Oct 23, 2018 1:34 PM

The New York Giants have agreed to trade Eli Apple to the New Orleans Saints for a fourth round pick in 2019 and a seventh rounder in 2020.

Apple was a first round pick at cornerback in 2016 out of Ohio State.

Apple was suspended by the Giants for the final game of the 2017 season for "a pattern of behavior that is conduct detrimental to the team," capping off a tumultuous season that included multiple benchings and some troubling incidents with teammates, coaches and executives while he was dealing with family issues.

Annie Apple, Eli's mother, on Tuesday thanked the Giants on Twitter for giving "a little football nerd opportunity to live his dream."

Giants Will Keep Starting Eli Manning Despite Struggles

Oct 12, 2018 6:04 PM

Despite a 1-5 start and visibly poor play, the New York Giants will stick with Eli Manning as their starting quarterback.

Manning has six touchdown passes and six turnovers through six games.

"No. We believe in Eli," coach Pat Shurmur said Friday when asked about a potential change.

Alex Tanney has served as the backup the first six weeks, with rookie Kyle Lauletta inactive.

The Giants passed on a quarterback with the No. 2 overall pick, selecting Saquon Barkley.

Odell Beckham Left First Half Early To Get IV

Oct 12, 2018 8:46 AM

Odell Beckham went to the locker room before the end of the first half and was late to the field for the start of the third quarter on Thursday night because he was cramping up.

The New York Giants wide receiver received an IV at the half. There were questions about whether he was simply upset with his team's performance.

"Dehydrated again," Pat Shurmur said about Beckham, who also left early against the New Orleans Saints two weeks ago to get an IV. "Some guys' bodies dehydrate quicker than others, so we just have to keep looking for ways to make sure he stays hydrated."

Beckham had six catches on 10 targets for 44 yards in New York's 34-13 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

"I just hate losing. That's the bottom line," Beckham said. "[We] just got to keep going, keep digging, keep digging -- it's really all you can do -- keep digging and working harder or you can give up, and I don't think anybody in here is giving up."

Several Giants Privately Questioning Eli Manning's Performance

Oct 11, 2018 11:24 AM

Eli Manning is 32nd in the NFL with an average of 10.31 yards per completion. He's tied for 28th with a touchdown on 3.2 percent of his pass attempts. His 7.02 air yards per attempt put him 29th among quarterbacks.

“All you have to do is watch him,” one NFL executive said. “Don’t think about what his name is. Just watch him. Don’t make excuses. It’s blatant and obvious.”

Several players on the New York Giants have expressed frustration with Manning's performance. One player specifically commented recently about Manning’s inability to do anything against Cover 2 and zone defenses.

Manning has struggled over several seasons and even in his prime he was far from one of the NFL's best quarterbacks.
