Aug 23, 2017 9:16 AM

Odell Beckham, Jr.'s ankle injury could keep him out of the New York Giants' season opener against the Dallas Cowboys, according to sources.

It's "not out of the question he could miss a week or two of the regular season," according to one source.

Beckham left Monday night's preseason game against the Cleveland Browns after taking a hard hit to the left leg from Briean Boddy-Calhoun. An X-ray during the game was negative. He underwent an MRI on Tuesday that confirmed a sprained ankle.

Odell Beckham, Jr. appears to have escaped major injury after spraining his ankle in a preseason game against the Cleveland Browns on Monday night.

Beckham left in the second quarter and was seen on camera writhing in pain outside the New York Giants' locker room. The receiver was hurt on a hit delivered by cornerback Briean Boddy-Calhoun after he made a leaping catch.

He was back on the sideline in the second half in a hoodie without pads following an X-ray, and said afterward it was a sprained or rolled ankle.

"I don't know. I'm pretty concerned," Beckham said with a smile, "but I think I'll be all right."

Eli Manning Thinks He Can Play Four More Seasons

Aug 16, 2017 6:40 PM

Eli Manning, 36, believes he can play another four years in the NFL.

"Yeah, I think sitting here right now, I think I can play another four years," the New York Giants quarterback said.

"That's the way the body feels. ... Again with football, you don't know what's going to be the difference, how you're going to feel next year. And right now I still have the same enthusiasm and I'm working hard and I like doing the training and watching film and doing everything ... I have to do to prepare for it. So I don't see it slowing down. I think until the time comes or that changes, I'm going to keep going as hard as I can."

Manning is under contract through the 2019 season and would turn 40 at the end of the 2020 campaign.

Giants general manager Jerry Reese said in January that the 14-year veteran and two-time Super Bowl champ is "probably on the back nine" of his career.
