John Mara 'Comfortable' With Decision To Re-Sign Josh Brown

Aug 24, 2016 2:43 PM

John Mara has defended the New York Giants' decision to re-sign Josh Brown, who has a number of domestic violence allegations against him.

"All I can tell you is that we're aware of all the allegations, and I believe all the facts and circumstances, and we were comfortable with our decision to re-sign him," Mara said Wednesday.

Mara's comments were his first on the allegations against Brown, as he declined to answer questions from reporters over the weekend.

Mara said domestic violence is not a "black or white" issue.

"You very rarely have a Ray Rice video," he said.

Mara noted that "the charges were dropped within a couple days" after Brown's arrest in 2015 following an incident with his now ex-wife.

"Nothing has happened in the meantime to make us question that decision," Mara said.

The Giants owner said domestic violence is "an issue ... that we take very seriously here."

Giants Sign Randy Bullock

Aug 22, 2016 8:45 PM

Randy Bullock has signed with the New York Giants.

Bullock will fill-in for Josh Brown at kicker, who is suspended for Week 1 of the regular season. Brown's suspension comes from a domestic charge in 2015. Brown's ex-wife alleges over 20 physically violent incidents.

The signing puts Brown's future with the Giants in question.

The Giants worked out Bullock and Garrett Hartley on Monday after backup kicker Tom Obarski missed a 28-yard field goal on Saturday in Buffalo.

Josh Brown Violent With Ex-Wife More Than 20 Times

Aug 19, 2016 11:00 AM

Josh Brown’s ex-wife told police on the day of his 2015 arrest that the New York Giants kicker had been physically violent with her over 20 times and that she had previously had a protection order against him, and that the violence began when she was pregnant with their daughter back in 2009, according to an incident report obtained by the Daily News.

Brown has received a one-game suspension by the NFL.

When asked Thursday about the incident that led to his arrest, Brown said, “It was just a moment.” It was announced that Brown had been suspended by the NFL for one game on Wednesday and when Brown spoke on Thursday news had not yet broken of the rest of the allegations.

In reports and 911 tapes obtained by The News, it is revealed that police responded to the Brown house on two consecutive days. On a 911 call from the day before, Molly Brown said the kicker “genuinely got in my son’s face,” referring to her 16-year-old son, who was Brown’s stepson.

The second 911 call, on May 22, occurred after Molly Brown said he grabbed her wrist during an argument about finances.

The Giants were aware of Brown’s May 2015 arrest when it re-signed him to a two-year, $4 million deal with $1 million guaranteed in April.

“Molly described in her statement the history of physical violence against her from her husband Joshua,” the incident report reads. “Molly stated that Joshua had been physically violent to her on more than 20 different instances over the past several years. She said that Joshua became violent after she became pregnant with their daughter.”

NFL Suspends Josh Brown For Giants' Opener

Aug 17, 2016 5:16 PM

New York Giants kicker Josh Brown has been suspended for one game for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy.

Brown, who made 30 of his 32 kicks last season, is eligible to participate in preseason practices and games. The Giants face off against the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 11.

"While I do not agree with the suspension, I will accept it," Brown said in a statement. "I have exhausted the appeals process and have no other options along those lines. I will continue to work hard for this team, and I have tremendous confidence in my teammates and in my ability to move on and contribute to the team."

Giants 'Not Giving Up' On Victor Cruz

Aug 16, 2016 8:16 AM

Victor Cruz has been severely limited since he tore his patellar tendon during the 2014 season, but the New York Giants aren't ready to give up on the wide receiver.

Cruz was held out of practice on Monday after his return to the field on Sunday ended with an injured groin.

"We're still not giving up on Cruz," Jerry Reese told WFAN. "Hopefully, he'll make it back."

Ben McAdoo said he had a conversation that centered on "some different things that may be able to help" Cruz moving forward, but declined to say what they discussed.

Ben McAdoo Modernizing Giants' Practice Habits

Aug 11, 2016 11:39 AM

Ben McAdoo has worked to modernize the training practices of the New York Giants after the long tenure of Tom Coughlin.

McAdoo is allowing the Giants to sleep in longer and they're also playing music during practice to help simulate the noise and distractions of games. McAdoo has also shortened the amount of film the Giants watch before practice.

“The music is just fun,” linebacker Mark Herzlich said. “And if anything, it makes you focus out the other distractions.”

“There’s a lot of innovation behind the scenes, too,” running back Andre Williams said. “There are a lot of different things that they’re measuring now with GPS, and they chart heart rates, hydration rates and all kinds of other things with crazy names. The weight room is completely different. It’s a different generation of football.”

“That’s the type of atmosphere the game is — it’s high energy and it’s not quiet,” running back Rashad Jennings said. “You have fans, you have music and you have TV timeouts. So I think putting us in that organized chaos that the game presents, it causes us to adjust to it. It helps tremendously.”
