Belichick, Carroll, Payton Considered Best HC's In NFL By Peers

Sep 3, 2014 11:09 PM

Bill Belichick is ranked as the best coach in the NFL, according to a poll of 30 league insiders.

Pete Carroll and Sean Payton are ranked second and third and are also in their first tier.

Reese: We Tried To Turn Over Giants' Roster In Offseason

Sep 25, 2014 2:24 PM

The New York Giants are confident that they will have a stronger season than their huge disappointment in 2013.

"Obviously, we did a lot of work in the offseason and tried to turn the roster over a little bit," said Giants GM Jerry Reese, whose team signed more free agents than any other in the NFL this offseason. "But there are plenty of guys who were here last year for that 0-6 start and have a bad taste in our mouths."

The Giants upgraded the cornerback position in particular.

Jake Ballard Retires At Age Of 26

Sep 25, 2014 7:04 AM

Jake Ballard has retired from the NFL at the age of 26 after appearing in eight games last season with the Arizona Cardinals.

Ballard tore his ACL and eventually needed microfracture surgery following an injury during Super Bowl XLVI.

"Yesterday I made the difficult decision to retire from the game of football," Ballard said in a statement, via ProFootballTalk. "I love this game and have put my heart and soul into it for as long as I can remember. After sustaining a serious knee injury while playing for the New York Giants in the Super Bowl, my body never felt the same.

"Having a quality of life after football is very important to me and I have witnessed it taken away from others. I will miss the game tremendously, but I am ready for this next chapter in my life."

David Wilson To Retire At 23

Sep 17, 2014 4:27 PM

David Wilson will retire from football at the age of 23 on the orders of doctors due to the condition of his neck and spine.

The New York Giants placed Wilson on injured reserve, which means he will not play for them this season.

According to a team news release, Wilson has come to terms with the fact his playing days are through.

Wilson injured his neck in a Week 5 game against the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013 and missed the rest of the season. He had spinal fusion surgery in January and was not cleared for full contact until July 21, the day before the Giants' first training camp practice.

He was injured during practice a week later and spent a portion of last week being examined by doctors.
