Steve Smith Announces Retirement From NFL

Sep 24, 2014 1:50 PM

Steve Smith is retiring from the NFL after dealing with ongoing knee issues.

Smith was a second round pick by the New York Giants in 2007 and caught 245 balls for 2,641 yards and 12 touchdowns during 64 career NFL games.

"I've been blessed to play the game that I love at the highest level for the past six years. I will always cherish my time with the New York Giants and our Super Bowl victory in 2007," Smith said in a statement through the Bucs.

"This was not an easy decision," Smith added, "but it's the right decision for me at this time."

Smith played for the St. Louis Rams last season and was most recently with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Ramses Barden Re-Signs With Giants

Sep 13, 2014 12:09 PM

Ramses Barden has re-signed with the New York Giants, adding depth at wide receiver.

Barden was selected by the Giants in the third round in 2009.

"I'm happy to be back," Barden said in a statement from the team. "This is where I wanted to be and now I'm here. I was out there listening to the calls, getting back into the rhythm of the cadence, enjoying the camaraderie and absorbing everything. I remember everything, I've had four years to soak it all up. I'm happy to be back on the field. I feel great. I expect the best."

Victor Cruz and the Giants continue their impasse.

Giants Interested In Charles Woodson

Jul 2, 2014 9:21 AM

The New York Giants have again expressed interest in signing Charles Woodson.

Woodson's agent, Carl Poston, told ESPN's Josina Anderson that "The Giants have just put their toe in the water again for Charles Woodson."

Woodson would instantly become one of the top three safeties on the Giants' roster. Woodson could challenge Stevie Brown to start opposite Antrel Rolle.

Woodson would presumably play safety and help cover in certain packages.

Woodson visited with the Denver Broncos earlier in the week.

Giants Remain Confident In Signing Long-Term Deal With Victor Cruz

Oct 31, 2014 5:32 AM

Victor Cruz remains without a new deal, but the New York Giants are optimistic that a long-term deal will be eventually reached.

“I'm pretty confident that we'll end up reaching a deal,’’ co-owner John Mara said on "NFL AM." "This is not that atypical a situation. Player contracts, particularly with star players like Victor, can tend to drag on from time to time. I think we'll get it done."

The Giants are believed to have made an offer to Cruz worth more than $7 million per season.

Cruz, however, was initially seeking a deal that pays an annual average of $10 million.
