Ryan Calls Jets Best Team In NY, Fires Back At Tuck

Oct 31, 2014 11:36 AM

The annual preseason game between the Jets and Giants received a jolt late Thursday, with Rex Ryan claiming the Jets are the superior team. Ryan also fired back at Giants defensive end Justin Tuck. On Wednesday, Tuck made a passing comment about the name of the stadium, saying "it'll always be Giants Stadium" even though MetLife purchased the naming rights this week. Ryan couldn't resist. "I think of it as MetLife Stadium and it's the home of the New York Jets," he said on a conference call with reporters. "I guess he can think of it that way. (He's) probably one of the only guys that think of it that way. I certainly won't think of it that way."

Eli Manning Wishes Burress Well

Oct 31, 2014 3:40 PM

Giants quarterback Eli Manning wants to see former teammate Plaxico Burress have success this season. Manning plans to catch up with the wide receiver when the Giants and Jets play in a preseason game this weekend. "I don't think it will be weird," Manning said of seeing Burress in a Jets jersey. "If you play in this league long enough you will play against some teammates. He was a great teammate for the Giants, we had a great run together but things happened and obviously he is with the Jets now and playing well so I am happy for him." "I haven't seen him in a long time so I am looking forward to seeing him before or after the game," he added.

Giants VP 'Disappointed' Burress Went To Jets

Oct 8, 2014 5:02 AM

Giants vice president Steve Tisch wasn't happy when he learned that wide receiver Plaxico Burress was going to sign with the Jets. "I was disappointed," Tisch said. "My disappointment, I totally understand, you and your readers will understand. ... At the same time, he's made a good deal, a very good deal; he's been guaranteed real money and I would like to see him have a great season. I truly would like to see him play great football for the Jets. It looks like he's off to a great start." Tisch said he has a close relationship with Burress and he even visited the receiver while he was serving his two years in jail for pleading guilty to weapon violations. Burress played four seasons with the Giants before going to jail.

Giants' Terrell Thomas Tears ACL

Oct 31, 2014 11:36 AM

Giants cornerback Terrell Thomas tore his right ACL in Monday night's 41-13 win over the Bears, and will likely miss the entire season. And the devastating news became too much to take for Thomas' teammates in the Giants' secondary. "We found out before halftime, and most of us had tears in our eyes," safety Deon Grant said. "Just to see the work he put in this offseason, and seeing his confidence level and what he'd been doing during training camp, it bothered us more than regular injury." "We had tears in our eyes for him, because we knew how humble he was with it, and how good he was looking. "(At halftime) I prayed with him, and told him don't kill your spirit. We know your plan was to go out there and play big, but sometimes God's plan is a lot different than what our plan is, and we told him that."

Tuck Backs Umenyiora's Surgery Decision

Jul 7, 2014 8:28 AM

Giants defensive end Justin Tuck says teammate Osi Umenyiora planned to address his troublesome right knee after the season. However, it kept swelling up after practice and became too much for Umenyiora to bear. "We had already talked about it and what his plans were going to be," Tuck said. "He came out in practice with every intention of letting his knee be dealt with in the offseason. After a couple practices it swelled up on him, and him and the Giants made a conscious decision to take care of it now. It wasn't like he planned on it. He planned on playing the season with it, but seeing how it was the first week of practice, he felt like the best idea was to take care of it now." Umenyiora, a two-time Pro Bowl defensive end, will miss three to six weeks, if not longer, after having arthroscopic surgery to clean out his right knee on Friday.
