Eli Isn't Surprised Giants Didn't Land Big WR

Oct 31, 2014 6:18 AM

Giants quarterback Eli Manning wasn't surprised that the team didn't end up swinging a major trade for a wide receiver like Braylon Edwards or Anquan Boldin this past weekend. "I didn't know what was going to happen. No, I'm not surprised," Manning said Tuesday. "You never know what to expect on draft day. You hear a lot of rumors and you never know what's true and what's false." New York did, however, add wide receivers Hakeem Nicks and Ramses Barden and tight end Travis Beckum via the draft. "Looking at the receivers we have right now, I'm very confident with the guys and everybody we have that we can go out there and play at a high level," Manning said, adding: "You've got to trust your guys to get open and I trust our players. You know what their strengths are, you know what they do well. "The more time we get to work with the guys we have here, the better they'll get, the better our timing will get. We've got some young guys who have played well, but the more experience they get, they'll all get better and we'll see how good we can be."

Giants Had Trade In Place To Take Maclin

Nov 22, 2014 4:46 PM

The Giants reportedly had a deal in place to move up to the 20th pick in order to take Missouri receiver Jeremy Maclin. Their plan was foiled when the Eagles moved to the 19th pick and selected Maclin. New York settled for North Carolina's Hakeem Nicks with the 29th pick.

Reese Comments On Giants' WR Situation

May 27, 2014 7:34 PM

The Giants drafted two wide receivers in this weekend's first three rounds, opting not to make a strong play for Cleveland's Braylon Edwards. Rumors had linked Edwards to the Giants in the weeks leading up to the draft. New York selected Hakeem Nicks (first round) and Ramses Barden (third round), and general manager Jerry Reese is content with their haul. "We felt like there was some very good young receivers in this draft and we were not going to overextend ourselves with the veteran wide receivers on other teams," said Reese. "We investigated these players in the draft and we felt like there would be somebody there at 29. We didn't want to overextend or reach in a trade."

Giants Looking To Nicks As Plax's Replacement?

Oct 31, 2014 7:05 AM

With the Browns asking for a first-round pick in exchange for Braylon Edwards, the Giants could turn their eyes towards North Carolina's Hakeem Nicks as Plaxico Burress' replacement. The Giants have had Nicks in their sights for several months because of his toughness and ability, according to several team sources. He had gained weight, which he blamed on an injured hamstring, but is reportedly back down to 212 pounds.

Source: Edwards Too Pricey For Giants

Oct 13, 2014 6:24 PM

The Giants may not land wide receiver Braylon Edwards from the Browns after all, with sources claiming that Cleveland is asking for too much. Giants general manager Jerry Reese has told the Browns that he will not part with the 29th overall pick for Edwards, and Cleveland reportedly won't take less.

Giants' Players Want Edwards In Blue

Feb 15, 2014 2:39 AM

A number of Giants' players have admitted that they would like to see the team trade for Browns receiver Braylon Edwards. "I think he definitely can lock down one side of the field when he's playing his best football," defensive end Justin Tuck said Tuesday. "He has the same kind of effect that Plaxico had. He's a tall receiver that can get downfield in a hurry and stretch the defense, which has the ability to open up our running game." "I don't know what the coaches are thinking," added receiver Steve Smith. "But I think he's a great player and I think if we got him he would definitely help us." New York quarterback Eli Manning said last week that he would love to see the team make a play for Edwards as a replacement for Plaxico Burress.

Giants' Reese: You Never Know What Could Happen

Feb 13, 2014 6:48 AM

With Braylon Edwards on the market and 10 draft picks to play with, Giants general manager Jerry Reese has admitted that a lot could happen. "You never know what could happen," Reese said last week at his annual pre-draft press conference. "(It's) going to get hot and heavy and we could package some picks and do something with them. So you never know." Even if New York isn't able to land a receiver like Edwards to replace Plaxico Burress, they could use their additional picks to trade up and take a top-flight pass-catcher. "There are always a lot (of options)," Reese said. "Everybody is jockeying, saying, 'Do you want to move up? Do you want to move down?'"

Strahan To Boldin: Keep Quiet

Sep 25, 2014 12:33 AM

Michael Strahan has some advice for Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin: stop complaining. "I know he's not happy here but complaining about it in the press really doesn't help you," Strahan said. Boldin, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, is upset that he hasn't gotten a new contract and has said he wants to be traded. "Playing in Arizona's not so bad. He could be with T.O. (Terrell Owens) in Buffalo. It's colder up there," Strahan said.

Eli Lobbies For Giants To Get Edwards

Oct 14, 2014 4:35 AM

Giants quarterback Eli Manning is starting to lobby his team to acquire receiver Braylon Edwards in a trade from the Browns. "You just see him make big plays," Manning said. "I know last year maybe wasn't his best year, but two years ago, he scored a lot of touchdowns. And I think you want a guy who can catch the ball and get in the end zone." Manning is aware that the front office is working hard, but made it known that he wants a top-flight target to replace Plaxico Burress. "I think Jerry Reese and the coaches and the owners, they've been studying all the receivers, whether it's the draft or free agents and what might happen, so I think they're on top of it," Manning said. "They know we have some good receivers but that we might need a No. 1 receiver ... And I'm sure something will happen during the draft or before the draft or right near it to help us out."

Giants Add Boldin To Receiver Wish List?

Oct 31, 2014 7:36 AM

Now that the Cardinals are officially fielding offers for Anquan Boldin, the Giants could widen their search for a new top pass-catcher. New York is looking to replace Plaxico Burress, and there have been rumors that they are close to acquiring Braylon Edwards from Cleveland. Boldin, unhappy with his contract in Arizona, provides the Giants with another option should talks with the Browns breakdown.
