Giants Officially Place Umenyiora On IR
The Giants officially placed defensive end Osi Umenyiora on the injured reserve on Wednesday, ending his season on the same day he underwent surgery to repair a torn lateral meniscus in his left knee, according to Newsday.
"The doctors were very pleased," Coach Tom Coughlin said. "The surgery went well. The knee looked good. The prognosis is very, very optimistic for a full recovery."
Strahan: I'm Staying Retired
Michael Strahan has told FoxSports that he has decided to remain retired and has turned down the Giants' offer to lure him back to action.
"This has been one of the toughest nights of my life," Strahan said from Greece. "But after long deliberation and throwing around a million scenarios in my head for the past day, I think it's just best if I stay retired."
"I have gone back and forth on this because as a player you'll always want to play; you'll never lose that urge to be out there. But I could only do this if I could commit 100 percent, physically, mentally, emotionally, and I can't do that. I've tried to convince myself and my body to give it one more year, but in the end I just don't think I could turn it on like I need to again."
Strahan Wins Court Ruling But Is Dependent On Staying Retired
A state appeals court ruled on Tuesday that retired Giants' defensive end Michael Strahan should not have to pay $18,000 a month in child support for his twin daughters, doesn't need to get a multi-million dollar disability insurance policy, or pay for his ex-wife's lawyer in a bitterly-fought divorce.
A three-judge panel of the New Jersey Appellate Division reversed the child support payments and said that since Strahan had retired, the insurance policy wasn't necessary.
Giants Contact Strahan's Agent
The Giants have reached out to Michael Strahan's agent about the possibility of him coming out of retirement.
"They want to see if there is any interest there," agent Tony Agnone told The Associated Press. "I have to talk to Michael."
Strahan turned down a $6 million contract offer in the offseason.

Kiwanuka To Take Umenyiora's Spot On D-Line
Mathias Kiwanuka is expected to take Osi Umenyiora's spot on the defensive line in the wake of the former's season-ending injury, according to Newsday.
"We're going to go forward with the players that we have," Tom Coughlin said.
There has been some discussion that the Giants could lure Michael Strahan out of retirement with a sizable contract offer, but Coughlin has downplayed the rumors.
"There hasn't been any discussion that I've been involved in," Coughlin said of the Strahan Scenario. "The last time I talked with Michael he had accepted his new challenge and I have not spoken with him at all since Monday night's game."
Report: Strahan Would Consider Return For $8M
Recently-retired defensive end Michael Strahan would consider making a return to the Giants for a salary of $8 million, according to a report in The New York Daily News.
The Giants learned on Sunday that Osi Umenyiora has been lost for the season with a knee injury, and New York suddenly has a glaring hole on the defensive line.
"If the Giants make a sincere overture, it's a good chance that Strahan would consider coming back," a source told the Daily News. "There are other things he has to take into consideration: the money and his contract with Fox. But if the Giants really want him, they have a shot. It's not out of the question."
Strahan hasn't ruled it out either.
"I haven't heard from anybody else, so to say if I would or wouldn't is premature," Strahan said, "so I'm enjoying my retired life right now."

Umenyiora To Have MRI After Leaving Game
Giants' defensive end Osi Umenyiora is set to have an MRI after suffering a knee injury that forced him to leave the team's preseason game against the Jets, according to The New York Post.
"Any time a guy like that goes down it definitely hits you right in the throat," Justin Tuck said. "Hopefully, it ain't that serious."
Umenyiora left with 10:48 remaining in the second quarter of New York's 10-7 loss to the Jets.
The Giants announced during the game that X-rays taken of Umenyiora's knee were negative, but that only means there are no broken bones.
"Obviously, you can't replace Osi Umenyiora, but I feel we got guys who can fill in that role and give us some quality play," added Tuck. "We're not thinking like that right now. We're thinking Sept. 4, No. 72 [is] going to be right there at his normal spot at right end."
Giants' Tynes To Have Exploratory Surgery
Giants' kicker Lawrence Tynes, who kicked the team into February's Super Bowl in an overtime victory over the Packers in the NFC Title Game, will undergo exploratory surgery on his left knee, according to The Star-Ledger.
He could be lost for the season if the surgery reveals that further surgery is needed.
"I don't know what to tell you there," Coach Tom Coughlin said when asked if Tynes was improving. "He says he is but they haven't given him the green light. ... It's close to when we need to know at least what the expectation is."
