Julian Edelman Thinks Spygate 2 Is 'Ridiculous'

Dec 20, 2019 8:28 AM

Julian Edelman doesn't believe the controversy surrounding the New England Patriots filming the Cincinnati Bengals earlier this month is worth his time.

"Yeah, that's pretty much a joke," Edelman said. "We haven't even thought about it, honestly. We've been thinking about other things. It's funny, but it is what it is. I don't know, it's ridiculous. My focus is on the Buffalo Bills."

The Patriots have acknowledged that the videographer they sent to the Bengals game two weeks ago broke the league rules, but they said it was accidental.

Stephon Gilmore: 'No Question' I'm Defensive Player Of The Year

Dec 19, 2019 8:44 AM

A defensive back hasn't won Defensive Player of the Year honors since Troy Polamalu was honored in 2010.

However, Stephon Gilmore is one of the favorites to win the award this year.

"I mean, my play speaks for itself," the New England Patriots cornerback said when asked if he deserves to win DPOY. "If you really watch the tape each and every game, it's no question."

Gilmore has six interceptions. He's been targeted 82 times and allowed zero touchdowns.

Dec 18, 2019 8:51 AM

Tom Brady was not among the three members of the New England Patriots named to the AFC's Pro Bowl roster.

It marked the first time since 2008 that Brady wasn't selected to the Pro Bowl.

Brady has been named to the Pro Bowl 14 times, an NFL record he shares with Peyton Manning, Tony Gonzalez, Bruce Matthews and Merlin Olsen.

NFL Has No Timetable For Ruling On Patriots Probe

Dec 13, 2019 8:52 AM

Roger Goodell told reporters on Wednesday that there is no timeline to complete the NFL's probe into the New England Patriots' video taping of the Cincinnati Bengals sideline last Sunday.

"It's under review," Goodell said. "We're going to be thorough. We're going to take our time and make sure we look at everything that's pertinent here and make a decision."

Goodell would not speculate if there would be a ruling before the end of the season.

Bill Belichick Denies Involvement In Latest Taping Scandal

Dec 11, 2019 7:56 AM

Bill Belichick has denied any involvement with the videographer who was caught taping the Cincinnati Bengals' sideline during their game on Sunday.

It has raised suspicions around the league and drawn some comparisons to "Spygate," the 2007 incident that led to penalties for Belichick and the New England Patriots.

"We're competitive and we'll try to be competitive in every area," Belichick said. "But we don't knowingly, intentionally want to do anything that's across the line.

"But since that's [Spygate] happened, I'd say we've tried to keep a good distance behind the line and not maybe take it as far as we would might have in the past. But it's never really fundamentally changed there."

In 2007, Belichick was fined $500,000 and the Patriots were docked a first-round pick in the 2008 draft after a team employee was caught recording unauthorized footage of the Green Bay Packers and the New York Jets.

Patriots Say Video Crew Filmed Sideline During Bengals-Browns Game

Dec 10, 2019 2:59 PM

The New England Patriots have acknowledged that their production crew inappropriately filmed the field and sideline during Sunday's game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns.

The crew was credentialed by the Browns to shoot video for a web series entitled "Do Your Job," but the Patriots did not inform the Bengals or the NFL, which they called "an unintended oversight."

"The sole purpose of the filming was to provide an illustration of an advance scout at work on the road," the Patriots statement read. "There was no intention of using footage for any other purpose."

The Patriots also said the production crew, which included independent contractors who shot the video, is not part of New England's football operation.

Dec 8, 2019 11:24 AM

The New England Patriots have ruled out re-signing Antonio Brown.

Brown has apologized to the Patriots, to the public and to others, but they remain committed to moving on from him as they did when the team released him before Week 3.

Brown expects to sign with an NFL team once the NFL concludes its investigation.

"There are teams out there that would love to sign him once [his case] is resolved," said Brown's agent Drew Rosenhaus.
