Patriots Open To Extending Tom Brady's Contract

Feb 1, 2019 8:25 AM

Tom Brady, who turns 42 in August, is only under contract through the 2019 season.

Robert Kraft says the New England Patriots have no reservations about extending the quarterback's contract.

Brady has repeatedly said he plans to play until he's 45.

"Think about it: The last three years we've been privileged to go to the Super Bowl with a quarterback in place. I would be quite surprised if he didn't continue for quite a while as our quarterback," Kraft said.

Brady is scheduled to count $27 million against the salary cap.

Rob Gronkowski Will Take Some 'Downtime,' Then Mull Future

Jan 31, 2019 8:23 AM

Rob Gronkowski isn't ready to talk about retirement yet, but the New England Patriots tight end did offer a timetable regarding a decision on his playing future.

"As of right now, those are the last things I'm thinking of. ... I love playing the game," he said when asked about his future. "After a long season, after the [Super Bowl], a few weeks down the road, you sit back, you relax, you get some downtime, enjoyment time. And you just see where you want to go with it."

Pressed on whether he wants to play beyond this season, Gronkowski replied, "That's a tricky question. You're trying to get around me. You're just trying to get you some answers over there, baby. But, like I said, I don't know. I haven't done that sit-down yet. I've got to do that sit-down. About two weeks after [the season]. Then I'll know."

The exchange began as a joke, but took a turn with the apparent injury.

Adams says the NFL has been calling him about the incident.

"He [the mascot] was running around and everybody was booing him, so I said, 'You know what? Let me go tackle him,'" Adams said. "I didn't hit him that hard, man. All jokes aside, I didn't hit him that hard. I don't know what's really going on, but they did tell me he's in the hospital. My intention was never to hurt him. it was all about just a joke but I definitely want to check on him and make sure everything is good. At the end of the day we were out here just having fun and it wasn't nothing intentionally to try to hurt the guy."
