Patriots Decline To Talk Jimmy Garoppolo Trade With Browns At Draft

Apr 29, 2017 12:09 AM

The Cleveland Browns called the New England Patriots during the first round of the draft about trading for Jimmy Garoppolo.

The Patriots again declined to engage in trade talks centered on Garoppolo.

The future of Garoppolo has been tied to how many more years Tom Brady will continue to play.

The Patriots could even use the franchise tag on Garoppolo next offseason as a backup to Brady.

Bills Decline To Match Patriots' Offer For Mike Gillislee

Apr 24, 2017 4:15 PM

Mike Gillislee will join the New England Patriots after the Buffalo Bills decided not to match a two-year, $6.4 million offer sheet on Monday.

New England will send a fifth-round draft pick to Buffalo as compensation for the restricted free agent.

Just a year ago the Patriots signed Chris Hogan to a three-year, $12 million offer sheet which the Bills declined to match.

In addition to Gillislee, the Patriots have James White, Dion Lewis and Rex Burkhead at running back.

Patriots Likely To Keep Malcolm Butler

Apr 24, 2017 11:52 AM

The New England Patriots are unlikely to trade Malcolm Butler this offseason.

Butler signed a one-year, $3.91 million tender with the Patriots last Wednesday, which means New England has the opportunity to trade him.

Butler visited the New Orleans Saints earlier in the offseason.

If Butler had signed an offer sheet with the Saints and the Patriots didn't match, the Saints would have had to surrender their first-round pick in the 2017 draft (11th overall) to New England.

Butler and the Patriots discussed a long-term extension this offseason.

Patriots Won't Trade Jimmy Garoppolo This Offseason

Apr 24, 2017 3:49 PM

The New England Patriots have no plans to trade Jimmy Garoppolo this offseason.

With Tom Brady planning to play for several more seasons, the Patriots figured to explore his trade market.

The Patriots haven't come off their asking price for Garoppolo.

New England could conceivably use the franchise tag on Garoppolo next offseason even if he remains their backup quarterback.

Aaron Hernandez's Brain Donated For CTE Study

Apr 20, 2017 6:37 PM

The death of Aaron Hernandez has been officially ruled a suicide. Authorities say investigators found three handwritten notes next to a Bible inside the maximum-security prison cell where Hernandez was found hanging early Wednesday. There were also no signs of a struggle and he blocked access to his cell from the inside by jamming cardboard into the door tracks.

Authorities say Hernandez's brain is being turned over to university researchers now that they've ruled his death in prison a suicide.

Officials say the brain will be released to Boston University's Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy Center in accordance with the wishes of Hernandez's family.

Tom Brady Skips Patriots' White House Visit

Apr 19, 2017 11:30 AM

Tom Brady decided not to attend the New England Patriots' visit to the White House.

Brady's mom, Galynn, is currently in Boston. Galynn is battling an undisclosed illness.

"I am so happy and excited that our team is being honored at the White House today," wrote Brady in a statement. "Our team has accomplished something very special that we are all proud of and will be for years to come. Thank you to the President for hosting this honorary celebration and for supporting our team for as long as I can remember. In light of some recent developments, I am unable to attend today's ceremony, as I am attending to some personal family matters. Hopefully, if we accomplish the goal of winning a championship in the future years, we will back on the South Lawn again soon. Have a great day!"
