Gronkowski: I Like Scoring Touchdowns For Sure

Nov 19, 2014 5:40 PM

Rob Gronkowski scored three touchdowns in the New England Patriots' 51-23 win over the Chicago Bears.

Gronkowski has already scored 49 in his career.

Gronkowski had touchdown catches of 6, 2 and 46 yards."I like scoring touchdowns for sure," Gronkowski said. "That's why when I get in the red zone my eyes light up."

Gronkowski explained what allows him to make big plays with consistency in the receiving game.

"Being a big guy, obviously I'm not as fast as the DBs and the safeties and stuff and some of the linebackers are really fast too," Gronkowski said. "I have to use my body as leverage to outflank the guy to use it as a basketball move, like to box out."

Patriots Evaluating Roster Moves Following Season-Ending Injuries

Oct 31, 2014 11:45 AM

The New England Patriots will need to make some roster moves following the season-ending injuries to Jerod Mayo and Stevan Ridley.

“I think it’s something we are just going to have to evaluate here in [the] next day or two,” Belichick said at a news conference Tuesday. “I will talk with Nick Caserio and our coaching staff and Nick’s staff and we will just have to try to figure it all out here. It’s a real short week. So, I’ll have to take all of those things into consideration and try to figure out what would do, if we would make one, who would it be and so forth. Haven’t decided that yet and we will see how it goes here.”

Belichick explained the roster-building process and how to look at depth at positions.

“I would say, in general, that when you put the roster together you try to create as much depth as you can on the roster,” Belichick said. “But I think as you look at every team in the league, there are certain spots on each team where you have a little less depth than others, and if anything happens at those positions, you have fewer people to work with.

“And if you have situations at a position where you have more depth -- still challenging -- but you have more people to work with. Just a question of either how you want to handle a team in terms of numbers or the quality of players in terms of the strength of the players you put on your final roster.

“When you start, you are going to be thinner at some positions than at others, then you just have to wait to see how the season plays out to see how that materializes because there’s really no good way to forecast even though we’ve looked at it every year and continue to look at it.”

Brady Expresses Support For Coaching Staff

Oct 6, 2014 1:11 PM

Tom Brady refuted a report that there's tension between him and the New England Patriots' coaching staff this season.

"I've always had input and there's not one play that's ever been called in the game that I've said, 'Look I don't want to run that play or that's not the way it works,'" Brady said in his weekly interview on Boston sports radio station WEEI on Monday.

"I've always had input on what we do," Brady added. "I think that's what has been so great for me being here is I've always had the opportunity to say how I feel and what I think. Those are very personal discussions that I have with my coaches and they have so much respect for me and I have so much respect for them. I certainly don't feel that way. I would never say that."

A report from ESPN's Chris Mortensen indicated that the issues between Brady and the coaching staff may influence whether he continues his playing career beyond the current season.

Brady insisted that was not the case after beating the Bengals on Sunday night and he built on that denial Monday.

"It's nice for me to have an opportunity when you hear from my voice about how I really feel," he said. "I feel there is no place I'd rather play. Certainly there's no coach I'd rather play for than Coach [Bill] Belichick. My relationship with [the] offensive coaches is great. I respect them way more than they even know for the work that they put in to try to get us players ready to play. I think we've had a good thing going for a long time."

Tension With Patriots' Coaches Could Lead To Early Exit For Brady

Nov 28, 2014 5:57 AM

Tom Brady and the New England Patriots coaching staff have had tension due to the downsizing of the offense.

Sources say the issue could lead the Patriots to move on from Brady sooner rather than later though that is unlikely to happen in 2014.

Brady's declining performance also has been cited internally, a source told ESPN.

Jimmy Garoppolo is seen by the Patriots at the heir apparent to Brady.

Brady: Patriots' Offense Hasn't Played Well For A Long Time

Oct 13, 2014 2:36 AM

Tom Brady acknowledged the struggles of the New England Patriots' offense.

"I don't think we've played well for a long time," said Brady.

The Patriots rank 23rd in total yardage this season.

"That's obviously going to reflect in every statistic that you can find, that we don't have the kind of offense that's going to perform at a high level," Brady said in his weekly interview on Boston sports radio station WEEI 93.7 FM. "Everyone's connected. It all ties together. If we're not playing well, we're not going to have good stats."
