Welker: I Was A Bit In-Between On Punt

Jul 14, 2014 11:35 AM

Wes Welker left Tony Carter in no-man's land to accidentally touch the New England Patriots' fumble, which led to a fumble deep in the Denver Broncos' territory late in overtime.

“I’ve got to get to him earlier, and get those guys out of the way if I’m not going to make the catch,” said Welker.

“I was a little bit in-between,” Welker said, “and you can’t be that way.”

Welker was in the game returning punts in place of Trindon Holliday, who had fumbled earlier in the game.

“I was trying to get away from the ball, but it took a bounce,” said Tony Carter, who touched the ball.

Brady: My Mom Thought It Was A Penalty

Oct 13, 2014 6:09 AM

Tom Brady was asked to comment on the referees' decision to pick up a flag for pass interference to end the New England Patriots' loss on Monday to the Carolina Panthers as time expired.

"My mom thought it was a penalty," said Brady. "No more thoughts."

Referees ruled that Rob Gronkowski would have been unable to come back to catch Brady's pass that was intercepted by the Panthers.

Brady argued the call with the referees into the stadium tunnel.

Belichick Declines Comment On Officiating

Jul 16, 2014 5:16 PM

Bill Belichick declined to comment on Monday's controversial call allowing the Carolina Panthers to defeat the New England Patriots by a final score of 24-20.

Luke Kuechly was called for pass interference on Rob Gronkowski, but the flag was picked up due to the referees saying it was not a catchable ball.

“I don’t really have any comment to add to the officiating or any of those calls,” Belichick said. “It’s not really our job to call the game, it’s to play and coach it. Whatever calls [the officials] make are the ones we live with, we can’t let that effect what we’re doing.”

Jets, Patriots Interested In Ed Reed

Sep 14, 2014 10:43 AM

The New York Jets have expressed interest in Ed Reed.

The New England Patriots have also been mentioned as having interest in Reed, who was released by the Houston Texans this week.

Rex Ryan coached Reed during their time together with the Baltimore Ravens.

"The big picture of right now, the current football team, I'm probably not the right guy to make all those decisions," Ryan said. "I think sometimes there's a comfort level in knowing guys, without question, guys that certainly played well for you. ... I'd like those guys, without question."

Brady Credits Presence Of Gronkowski For 55-Point Day

Sep 20, 2014 4:04 PM

Tom Brady and the New England Patriots' offense looked potent once again on Sunday in their 55-31 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Patriots scored 28 points in the fourth quarter alone.

Rob Gronkowski had nine catches for 143 yards and one touchdown and helped open up the field for Brady to operate.

"He's one of the best players in the NFL," said Brady. "We really haven't had him for a long time and we've learned to play without him, but it's obvious when he's in there [that] he adds a different element to what we're trying to do and that's why he's such a good player.

"He worked really hard to get back to this point and after he's got a few games under him and he's got his football legs back, hopefully he can continue to do it," he continued. "It was a big spark for us yesterday and he really came out making some big plays for us on third down, some drive starters when we got things going into the drive."
