Veteran wide receiver Joey Galloway is emerging as New England's leading candidate to be the third option. Galloway, 37, has shown good speed and has the overall skill package that the Patriots covet. He is competing with Greg Lewis to be New England's No. 3 receiver.

Sources have told the National Football Post that the Patriots are not interested in Michael Vick. Many felt as though New England would have been a good fit for Vick, but the quarterback reportedly isn't interested in the scheme or the probability of becoming a starter.

Patriots receiver Wes Welker is "very happy" that former teammate Matt Cassel has landed in Kansas City with the Chiefs. "I'm very happy for him because now he can pick up all the restaurant bills and things like that," Welker said Saturday. "If I ever need a loan, I can always come to him." Cassel will make almost $15 million this season as the front-runner to be the Chiefs' starting quarterback.

Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi still hasn't decided whether or not he'll continue playing after this season. His contract expires at the end of the 2009 season, and he's leaving his options open at this point. "It has to be that way, not only for me but also the team," Bruschi said. Bruschi turned 36 on June 9, and was New England's fourth-leading tackler last season. "I have to give them everything I have this year and only think about what's next. I'm going to prepare myself for this season, only think about this season, and when the season is over, which is a long ways away, then you think about delving into those decisions," he added.

A source close to the couple claims that Gisele Bundchen is three months pregnant with the child of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. Bundchen reportedly got pregnant on the couple's honeymoon, and is set to deliver the baby in December.

The Patriots have released running back Patrick Pass just one week after signing him. Pass was a backup for New England from 2000-06, and was attempting to stick with the club for a second time. He was one of only seven current Patriots who were on all three of New England's Super Bowl champion teams.

Patriots nose tackle Vince Wilfolk is seeking a "comfortable" contract from the club. Wilfolk said Monday, while appearing at a charity golf tournament, that it made "the most sense" for him to stay away from New England's OTAs while he seek seeks a new deal. "It's nothing personal towards the organization. It's nothing personal towards my coaches or anything like that," Wilfork said on WEEI radio. Wilfork is entering the final year of his six-year contract worth an average of $1.5 million a season. "I'm not looking to sign this big-time, going-down-in-history, the best contract there is. I want to be comfortable," he added. "I don't want to leave. So I'm pretty sure we're going to do everything in our willpower to make it work."

Patriots safety Rodney Harrison will reportedly retire, opting to take a job as a member of NBC's broadcast team. A source revealed Harrison's plans to the Boston Herald on Tuesday. Harrison has said in the past that when he walks away from football, it will be for good. "Whatever Rodney decides to do, he'll be great at it," said teammate James Sanders.

Patriots safety James Harrison is expected to announce this week whether he is retiring from the NFL. Harrison, a two-time Pro Bowler, missed 10 games last season with a muscle in his right thigh. He is an unrestricted free agent.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has exceeded the expectations of his doctor in his rehab from knee reconstruction surgery. Dr. Neal ElAttrache told the Los Angeles Times that Brady "even exceeded what I thought he was going to be able to do, and I was expecting big things from him." Brady returned to organized team activities with New England on Tuesday. "Let's face it, guys that are athletes like him, they're strung together different. By and large, they follow the same biologic rules as the rest of us. However, they're able to do things with their neuromuscular control and their strength gains and how they respond to exercise a little bit differently. Within safe limits of how we know how these things heal after an operation like this, I had to take that into consideration," ElAttrache added.
