Raiders Trade Moss To Patriots

Oct 15, 2014 12:57 PM

The Raiders cut ties with Randy Moss after two unproductive seasons, sending the former Pro Bowl receiver to the Patriots on Sunday for a fourth-round draft pick. Moss was disgruntled for most of his two seasons in Oakland, and said frequently last season he thought he'd be better off with another team. He wanted to be dealt either to New England or Green Bay and got his wish.

Packers, Patriots Discuss Moss With Raiders

Oct 16, 2014 10:57 AM

The Raiders shopped wide receiver Randy Moss around the league today, hoping to unload the disgruntled wide receiver and his hefty salary on the eve of the NFL Draft, multiple league and team sources confirmed. New Raiders coach Lane Kiffin spent part of Friday trying to attract a first-day draft pick in exchange for Moss, who has not backed down from trade demands that began midway through last season. The Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots are believed to have talked with the Raiders, but neither was willing to give up the asking price -- believed to be something as high as a second-round draft pick in today's draft. "Nothing's been finalized," one team source said Friday, speaking on the condition of anonymity. A five-time Pro Bowl star in Minnesota, Moss has been a disappointment since the Raiders traded for him two years ago. He struggled with injuries in 2005, then complained openly throughout last season, when he had a career-low 42 catches for 553 yards. He is owed more than $11 million in guaranteed money the next two seasons, making him the highest-paid player on the roster.

Sauerbrun Returns To Denver

Nov 9, 2014 1:35 PM

Todd Sauerbrun hated leaving Denver on bad terms last fall. Now he's getting a chance to atone for his blunder with the Broncos. The 13-year veteran punter agreed to a one-year contract Thursday with the team that jettisoned him last October after he was suspended for violating the NFL's drug policy. He was caught using the banned dietary aid ephedra in a misguided attempt to lose weight and gain gusto for his workouts. Sauerbrun's deal with Denver was worth more than the $1.395 million he was scheduled to make with the Broncos last year. Sauerbrun started the 2006 season with Denver, but lost his job to Paul Ernster while serving a four-game suspension for using ephedra. Sauerbrun, who is expected to sign the contract on Friday, and Ernster will compete for the job in training camp this summer.

New England Inks CB Troy James

Sep 6, 2014 5:20 PM

New England continued stockpiling Pro Bowl talent, reaching agreement with free-agent cornerback Tory James on a one-year deal worth about $1.3 million dollars -- with a chance to earn another $1.4 million in incentives. James opted for New England primarily due to the Patriots' winning tradition and his rapport with head coach Bill Belichick, who will know just how to use the cornerback who has intercepted at least four passes in each of the past six seasons. Right now, New England does not plan to start James. But he provides valuable insurance with the unsettled contract situation of Asante Samuel, whom the Patriots franchised earlier this offseason.

Aug 10, 2014 4:38 PM

Drew Bledsoe threw for 44,611 yards and 251 touchdown passes during his 15-year career. ?I feel so fortunate, so honored, to have played this game that I love for so long, with so many great players, and in front of so many wonderful fans,? he said. ?I fulfilled a childhood dream the first time I stepped on an NFL field, and the league did not let me down one time. I retire with a smile on my face, in good health, and ready to spend autumns at my kids' games instead of my own. I'm excited to start the next chapter of my life.?

Patriots Match Offer, Hold On To Sauerbrun

Sep 18, 2014 5:41 PM

The Patriots retained punter Todd Sauerbrun on Monday night by matching the one-year contract that the three-time Pro-Bowler signed with the Broncos last week. By matching the deal, the Patriots inherit the contract for the 2007 season. The contract, with incentives, is worth $1.3 million-$1.4 million. It will be interesting to see how Sauerbrun reacts to the decision, since he said last week he hoped New England would not match the deal and would allow him to finish his career with a Broncos team that released him only five months ago.
