Mike Zimmer To Undergo Emergency Eye Surgery

Nov 30, 2016 11:36 PM

Mike Zimmer was to have emergency eye surgery Wednesday night and his status for Week 13 against the Dallas Cowboys is uncertain.

Zimmer had surgery to repair a torn retina on his right eye Nov. 1, after he had scratched his eye during the Vikings' loss to the Chicago Bears on Oct. 31.

Doctors had initially told Zimmer he ran the risk of going blind in the eye if he did not have the first surgery.

Interim offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur and offensive line coach Tony Sparano have both been NFL head coaches, and Shurmur assumed offensive play-calling duties when Norv Turner resigned Nov. 2, the same day Zimmer first discussed his eye surgery.

Adrian Peterson Could Return As Early As Week 15

Nov 21, 2016 4:26 PM

Adrian Peterson could return by mid-to-late December as he continues to make solid progress in his recovery from a right lateral meniscus tear.

Peterson underwent surgery on Sept. 22nd.

Peterson had an exam late last week and could start running this week.

Peterson could return on Dec. 18th or Dec. 24th.

The Vikings waived Ronnie Hillman on Monday, adding defensive end Stephen Weatherly to their active roster. The move left them with just Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata at running back, but an eventual Peterson return would change the dynamics of the Vikings' offense.

Vikings Release Blair Walsh

Nov 15, 2016 7:53 PM

The Minnesota Vikings have released Blair Walsh after auditioning a handful of other kickers last week.

Walsh missed an extra point in Sunday's loss against Washington, bringing his total up to four misses this season.

Walsh also missed a 27-field goal in last year's playoffs against the Seahawks.

On Monday, as Walsh worked out at the Vikings' facility on his own, head coach Mike Zimmer remained noncommittal about the kicker's future.

"We're going to see what all the options are," he said. "We're going to see what the options are at tackle. We're going to see what the options are at kicker, and then make a determination and go."

Norv Turner Felt He Was Holding Back Vikings' Offense

Nov 6, 2016 1:02 PM

Norv Turner stepped down as offensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings in a surprising move.

"Forgive me, I haven't slept in days," Turner told NFL.com. "This is the hardest thing I've done in football."

The Vikings began the season 4-0 and then lost two straight games.

"Sometimes, you feel like you might be holding them back," Turner said, "holding them back from things all getting on the same page. I don't want anyone to think I was bailing. It just wasn't working."

Turner clarified a few things. He's completely healthy. He doesn't know if he's retiring at age 64, though he admits moving around has been difficult for his wife.

A source involved with the situation was adamant that Turner was not forced out by the team. Turner's decision caught Zimmer by surprise.
