Freeman Trying To Stay Productive Despite Not Having Starting Job

Aug 5, 2014 3:24 PM

The Minnesota Vikings signed Josh Freeman to a $3 million, one-year contract after he was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but he has only played in a disastrous Monday Night Football game against the New York Giants.

Freeman realizes that he'll almost certainly play elsewhere next season.

"You guys probably have a lot of great theories," he said after practice on Wednesday, according to The Star Tribune. "I'm just working, man. It's been great. I'm just focusing on ball. I had a chance to really -- there's no distractions, no anything. You just get to sit, focus. I get my Beats (by Dre headphones) bumping in the QB room, just sitting there, just jamming, watch tape and take notes. It's great."

The Vikings continue to start Christian Ponder.

"I know that upstairs they know what they're doing," Freeman said. "The coaching staff, Leslie, they feel like Christian is the best option. Like I said, it's not my job to dispute that. It's my job to go out and work as hard as I can."

Adrian Peterson Slowed By Groin Injury

Aug 2, 2014 5:57 PM

Adrian Peterson gained 65 yards on 21 carries against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.

Peterson averaged only 1.28 yards after contact.

Peterson admitted after the game that the groin injury "was bothering me a lot."

"He is not 100 percent. That groin is bothering him," Leslie Frazier said. "It definitely affected him. There were a couple of moments when he was so close to breaking it and just couldn’t get that one key ingredient to get it going, but no, he is not 100 percent.”

Peterson Wants To Remain With Vikings, Would Understand If Traded

Oct 15, 2014 11:42 PM

Adrian Peterson doesn't want to be traded from the Minnesota Vikings, but he would understand the business aspects of dealing him for draft picks.

"I definitely wouldn't mind playing here," Peterson told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "I feel like we have the right pieces, and we can continue to get some more pieces as well to help build this team and make us even stronger. ... So, no, [I don't want to go elsewhere]."

Peterson signed a seven-year, $100 million extension in 2011 and the Vikings were a surprise playoff team in 2012. But the Vikings have a 2-7 record and don't appear to have a talented enough roster to contend in the near future.

"I understand that," Peterson told the Pioneer Press. "I know this is a business and things like that happen. So if it happens, it happens. There's not much I can't handle. I'm sure someone will welcome me with open arms if they do decide to trade me. ... But it's a business, so if they trade me, then, hey."

Vikings To Keep Starting Ponder If He Wins

Oct 15, 2014 11:52 PM

The Minnesota Vikings are starting Christian Ponder this week after he went 25-for-37 for 236 yards with one touchdown, one interception and another 29 yards rushing in their loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

The Vikings will start Ponder moving forward if they win, but he surely has no guarantee of the job.

The Vikings also have Josh Freeman and Matt Cassel at quarterback.

Leslie Frazier's Job Not In Danger

Oct 14, 2014 9:43 PM

Rick Spielman offered his support for Leslie Frazier remaining as head coach of the Minnesota Vikings.

"Leslie Frazier is not going anywhere," Spielman said Friday, per the Minnesota Star Tribune. "I am telling you that we are very committed to Leslie Frazier and this coaching staff."

The Vikings have had uncertainty as quarterback as they shuffle between Christian Ponder, Josh Freeman and Matt Cassel.

"We back coach Frazier 100 percent and we'll do everything we can to help him get this thing turned around," Spielman said.
