Favre Could Decide To Report On August 16

Aug 2, 2014 12:58 AM

Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com writes that August 16 might be the day Brett Favre opts to report to the Vikings. Of course, this is assuming Favre will return to the NFL for the 2010 season. "The Vikings will be the first team to break camp, in part because of their agreement with Minnesota State University, Mankato," Seifert writes. "They'll pack up prior to their first preseason game and then gather at their Twin Cities practice facility starting the week of Aug. 15. So if you're wondering when quarterback Brett Favre might report, circle Aug. 16 as a likely possibility on your calendar."

Brees Expects Favre To Return

Aug 18, 2014 4:00 AM

Saints quarterback Drew Brees expects Brett Favre to return to the Vikings and play this coming season. "I don't think there's any doubt that Brett Favre is coming back, and he's going to be as good as he's ever been," Brees said Monday in an interview with FanHouse. "We're going to need our best game to beat him, I know that. They're a good team. A very good team." The Saints will play host to the Vikings in the NFL regular-season opener on Sept. 9.

Favre Says He'd Love To Beat Saints

Oct 26, 2014 3:35 AM

Brett Favre says he can still play at a "high level" if he returns to the NFL for a 20th season. Favre has not yet said if he plans to play, but his most recent comments seem to hint that he's leaning towards coming back. He told the Sun Herald he would "love to go beat the Saints" in the season opener Sept. 9. "If my body was a wreck, the decision would be made," Favre told the newspaper. "But that is not the case. I know [the Vikings] want to know. "Hell, I want to know. But I am not going to press it. If I do not play, it does not cost the Vikings a dime. They keep the $13 million. I know they have confidence in the players they have. They had a chance to draft [Notre Dame QB Jimmy] Clausen in the first round, but they didn't want one."

Greenway Says There Is No Contract Issue With Vikings

Aug 17, 2014 7:47 PM

Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway insists there is no contract issue between him and the team. He did not take part in the team's three-day minicamp, saying the absence was neither injury nor contract related. Speculation centered on the fact Greenway is entering the last year of his rookie contract and possibly wasn't happy because there have been no known talks of an extension. "There?s nothing [contract] related at all," said Greenway, who will make just more than $3 million this season. "There is no contract issue at all. Coach [Brad] Childress gave me some time off for the minicamp, and that?s really all that matters."

Vikings Converting Webb Back To QB

Nov 26, 2014 1:24 AM

Minnesota Vikings rookie Joe Webb was drafted as a wide receiver, but the team has him back to playing quarterback. A sixth-round draft choice and the 199th player selected overall in April, Webb played quarterback at Alabama-Birmingham, switched to wide receiver for the Senior Bowl and devoted most of the spring to mastering the position to which he was projected by most NFL scouts. Suddenly, he was moved back to his old college spot by the Minnesota coaching staff last month. At UAB, Webb became the first quarterback in NCAA history to throw for 2,000 yards and run for 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons (2008 and 2009). His 1,417 yards rushing in 2008 are the third-most ever for a college quarterback.

Doctor Says Favre's Surgery Went Well

Dr. James Andrews says Brett Favre is progressing well in his rehabilitation from recent ankle surgery. "It went fine," Andrews said of the surgery Favre had a few weeks ago. "He's rehabbing and trying to decide what he's going to do. I talked to him yesterday." Favre, 41, has a contract with Minnesota that will pay him $13 million if he plays in the 2010 season. "We've got a few more weeks of rehabbing," Andrews said. "I think he hasn't decided yet what he wants to do."

Vikings linebacker Ray Edwards has signed his contract tender with the team. Edwards was given a first-round-level tender worth $2.5 million for one year, but he waited three months to sign it.
