NFL Close To Ending Favre Probe

Oct 11, 2014 12:22 AM

The NFL is wrapping up the Brett Favre inquiry regarding allegations that he sent inappropriate messages and photos to a former Jets employee and could come up with a ruling within a week, according to a source. Last week, former Jets game emcee Jenn Sterger and her attorney provided the final visual evidence, giving the league enough information to make a decision. The expectation is Favre will be re-interviewed to see how his story matches the evidence.

Rice Sits Out Practice As Precaution

Sep 12, 2014 7:32 PM

Sidney Rice did not practice Thursday, but his absence is not a reason to be concerned about the wide receiver's surgically repaired hip. According to an NFL source, Vikings interim coach Leslie Frazier was simply being cautious with Rice, who made his 2010 debut on Sunday.

Favre Prefers Vikings To Simplify Playbook

Sep 27, 2014 12:18 AM

Brett Favre believes the Vikings should simplify their playbook. "I've been playing 20 years," Favre said. "I would always say less. Every playbook across this league is way too thick. You never practice it all. How can you become consistent if you're running a different play every week out of different formations with a different motion with different guys? [That] has been the case for us this year. There have been a lot of guys that have been injured and this week it's Percy [Harvin] in the slot. Next week it's Greg Lewis. Next week it's Greg Camarillo. "Then maybe we're in the tiger formation and maybe it's [Visanthe] Shiancoe, [Jeff Dugan] in the slot. How can you get used to throwing slants when you never get to practice them? So be good at what you do. I always say if I were a coach, which will never happen, I would be very simple and be more, 'They have to stop what you do.' You think those guys crack that book, go through all 500 pages, c'mon? You could hide a couple hundred dollar bills in there."

Sterger's Manager: No Settlement With Favre

Sep 11, 2014 7:14 PM

Jenn Sterger's manager says Brett Favre's agent asked about paying to keep him quiet. Favre's agent, Bus Cook, sees things differently. Cook said in a statement that Sterger's camp made "numerous overtures" to him. He said he believes money has been the motivation for the former Jets game emcee. Sterger's manager, Phil Reese, said he called Cook in October to alert him about a forthcoming Internet report alleging Favre sent inappropriate messages and lewd photos to Sterger when they were both with the Jets two years ago. "I was concerned because I didn't know exactly what was going to be coming out, and I knew that it wasn't going to be good for everyone involved," Reese said. "He asked me if there was a specific figure in mind that could make this go away. I told him, 'I wish it were that easy, but there's no putting the toothpaste back in the tube.' "

Favre Cryptically Plays To 'Re-Evaluate'

Jun 4, 2014 6:33 PM

Vikings quarterback Brett Favre said after Sunday's loss to the Packers that he will "re-evaluate." While he was not clear about what he would re-evaluate, Favre did not directly answer a reporter who asked if he was committed to playing the rest of the season. "I would never have expected to be in this situation," Favre said. "Mathematically I think there is still some hope. I hate to use Jim Mora's comments about playoffs. I can't even think about that. I know there is still a slim chance, but come on. We've got to play a lot better than we played today and last week. "I came back for a Super Bowl, you're right. Also [there is] a chance that that doesn't happen, probably a better chance that we don't. And there's a way better chance that you won't play as well as last year. ... But this is a little surprising. Again, I'm just going to go home and ... I don't want to say 'think' about this game. Just re-evaluate tomorrow."
