Jenkins: Favre's 'Superstar Status' Caused 'Animosity' In New York

Aug 26, 2014 5:56 AM

Kris Jenkins took some shots at former Jets teammate Brett Favre on Friday night's NFL Total Access on NFL Network. Jenkins said Favre's presence caused a rift in the New York locker room in 2008. "No, no it was not," Jenkins said when asked if the team's chemistry was good. He didn't call out Favre or any of his teammates in particular, Jenkins cited some negative comments made by some Jets in the papers which he says, "destroy the morale of the locker room." "It was a snowball effect," Jenkins added. "And once it was a snowball effect, and some things started happening here, there -- then the next thing you know it gets out of control, and the team was lost at that point."

Peterson Says Ball Security Will Be An Off-Season Focus

May 17, 2014 2:57 AM

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson says that ball security will be one of his priorities this offseason. "There's like a rap sheet that's out there now," he said. "Guys would rather hit the ball than tackle me. I put it on myself. That comes with the way I run. It's something I'm going to focus on, as far as switch it up a little bit, and carry it higher, or what not. But there's some things I'm going to correct." Peterson lost six of seven fumbles during the regular season and he fumbled twice, although both were recovered, against the Saints in the NFC Championship Game.

NFL: Hit On Favre Should've Been Flagged

Oct 31, 2014 5:15 AM

The NFL says that a third-quarter hit on Vikings quarterback Brett Favre should have been flagged in last weekend's NFC Championship Game. The low blow on Favre, which hobbled him, would have reversed a penalty. "It's the type of hit that we don't want," NFL vice president of officiating Mike Pereira said, "... because clearly we're trying to protect the knees and we need to focus on this to make sure we don't miss [them]." With the score tied 21-21, Favre took a hit from Saints defensive end Bobby McCray. Minnesota would have had a first down at the Saints' 19-yard line.

Tarkenton Blames Favre For Minnesota's Loss

Oct 31, 2014 4:25 PM

Former Vikings' quarterback Fran Tarkenton once again spoke out critically of Brett Favre. ?I think the Vikings were clearly the best team,? Tarkenton said. ?They held this New Orleans offense to under 300 yards. They made Drew Brees look ordinary. He didn?t even throw for 200 yards. The guys have been throwing for 400, 500 yards. They were the better team. Their offense turned the ball over five times, the Viking offense. But still if (Favre) didn?t make that stupid play at the end of the game they would have won the game. Now you are in Philadelphia, remember a few years ago when Green Bay played you guys? . . . I mean he throws the ball straight up in the air, free falls. Do you remember that? I have never seen any quarterback much less, well he is going to be a Hall of Fame quarterback, make plays like that at a critical time. He has done the same thing in the Giants? game (2007 season). He plays at home, has the better team and plays against Eli (Manning). He was a young kid right? And he throws the pick?. and then he does what he did the other night which was just shameful because great quarterbacks, and he is a great quarterback, they don?t do that. You don?t see Peyton Manning do that.? Tarkenton said he is not down on Favre?s abilities. ?No, I think he has been a great, great player,? Tarkenton said. ?I am not a great fan of Brett Favre?s because he goes out and all I heard them talk about is Brett Favre and he is tough, he is getting hit. You know Peyton Manning gets hit. I have played with a torn ACL. Donovan McNabb gets hit. We all get hit but he is flapping around and jumping around and he is getting hit and he talks in the soft voice. I would rather it be about the team and not Brett Favre. I get the idea that it is more about Brett Favre than the team. A quarterback is to make his teammates better but he is not about that. Now as a player, he has been a great player. No question about it. Also great players, my gosh, I have never seen great quarterbacks make that many bad plays in a critical moment in a playoff game.? Tarkenton was asked about Favre?s career passing yards and touchdown records. ?He has done great and Peyton Manning is going to go by his records because you play 16 games today,? Tarkenton said. ?It is a quarterbacks league, they changed the rules in 1979 where you couldn?t hit the receiver past five yards. That changed the whole offense. Now most anybody can throw for 300 yards. Back in our day if you threw for 300 yards that was a huge thing. Now these records are going to continually be broken because of the nature of the game and Peyton will beat Favre. Favre has been a great, great player. No question about it. One of the greats of all-time. I am just not a great Brett Favre fan.?

Childress Won't Give Favre Deadline

Aug 19, 2014 2:46 PM

Vikings coach Brad Childress won't give Brett Favre a deadline to decide on his future. Favre, 40, said after Sunday's loss to the Saints in the NFC Championship Game that he will take time to decide between returning to Minnesota and retirement. Childress said Tuesday at his season-ending news conference that he'd prefer to know sooner rather than later, but that the team will plan for both possibilities.
