Dolphins Name Ryan Fitzpatrick Starting Quarterback

Aug 30, 2019 7:41 AM

The Miami Dolphins have named Ryan Fitzpatrick their starting quarterback for Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens.

"After a thorough evaluation of OTAs, training camp, games, practice, we felt this was the best move for the team going into the season," Brian Flores said. "Ryan has done a really good job from a leadership standpoint, from an execution standpoint, and we feel like it's the best move for the team."

Fitzpatrick gets the nod over Josh Rosen, who the Dolphins acquired in a trade with the Arizona Cardinals this offseason.

"I know I have more confidence in myself than anybody in the world," Fitzpatrick said. "Sometimes that's a detriment, but a lot of times that works in my favor. I'm always confident in who I am and what I am as a player. This is where I wanted to be and what I worked to get."

Dolphins Want Josh Rosen To Rein In 'Gunslinger Mentality'

Aug 9, 2019 10:21 AM

Josh Rosen played most of Thursday night's preseason game for the Miami Dolphins and Brian Flores came away with some impressions.

The new coach wants to see Rosen take fewer chances.

"At some point as a quarterback, you have to take a sack. That's the play," Flores said. "But the guy has a little bit of a gunslinger mentality and likes to let it rip. Obviously, that was a nice one to Preston [Williams], but I think we want to play smarter than that in that situation. Not just let the ball go like we did."

The second-year quarterback had no issue with what Flores had to say.

"You just can't fall into that trap because bad games will turn really bad really quickly if you don't learn negate that risk," Rosen said. "I've been battling that my whole career. I have to find that balance of knowing when I can push the edge, and when to just take the sack and live to play another down."

Kenny Stills Calls Out Dolphins Owner For Trump Fundraiser

Aug 8, 2019 10:58 AM

Kenny Stills called out the motivations of Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross on Twitter on Wednesday morning after finding out about a Donald Trump fundraiser luncheon scheduled at Ross' home later this week.

"You can't have a nonprofit with this mission statement [and] then open your doors to Trump," Stills tweeted, referring to Ross' RISE Foundation.

The first part of the RISE mission statement says the foundation is "a national nonprofit that educates and empowers the sports community to eliminate racial discrimination, champion social justice and improve race relations."

Ross has openly supported and donated to Trump's campaign for years. In a statement issued early Wednesday evening, Ross said he has been friends with Trump for 40 years and that while they agree on some things, "we strongly disagree on many others" and that he has never been "bashful" about expressing his opinions to the president.
