Chiefs Sign Damien Williams To Two-Year, $8.1M Extension

Dec 28, 2018 10:19 AM

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed Damien Williams to a two-year, $8.1 million extension.

Williams, who began the season as a little-used, third-string running back, has emerged as an important player for the Chiefs in the past month since the release of Kareem Hunt.

Williams signed a one-year contract with the Chiefs during the offseason after playing four years as a backup for the Miami Dolphins.

Patrick Mahomes Lands Endorsement Deal With Hunt's

Dec 20, 2018 8:30 AM

Patrick Mahomes, who famously expressed his love of ketchup earlier this season, has an endorsement deal for the product.

On Wednesday, Hunt's announced that Mahomes is a "brand ambassador'' for its ketchup.

"I've been a fan of ketchup for as long as I can remember, and the thick, rich flavor of Hunt's ketchup delivers every time," Mahomes said in a statement. "I'm thrilled to be joining the Hunt's team."

Patrick Mahomes Was Lightly Recruited Coming Out Of High School

Dec 19, 2018 11:27 AM

Patrick Mahomes has become one of the NFL's best quarterbacks but he was lightly recruited in the high school class of 2014. Mahomes only received a handful of scholarship offers and eventually attended Texas Tech.

Houston and Rice were the only other FBS colleges believed to have extended scholarship offers. Oklahoma State was widely reported to be Mahomes' runner-up, but they never actually offered Mahomes.

Greg Powers, who at the time covered Texas football recruiting for Scout.com, remembers ranking Mahomes as a 4-star prospect who landed inside Scout's Top 300 prospects nationally.

"Usually when the offer sheet doesn't match the talent you felt like you saw, you kind of have to convince yourself to stick to your guns," says Powers, who now works for Dave Campbell's Texas Football.

"What is everyone else seeing in this kid that I'm not?"

The easiest explanation could be that Mahomes' future in baseball could have scared off the football world.

Mahomes was also a three-sport athlete who was too busy with basketball and baseball to bother with retaining a private throwing coach or attending offseason showcases.

"I think they missed because ... he never had the coaching all those other guys had," said his godfather LaTroy Hawkins. "He never went to those quarterback camps; he never did that."

Kareem Hunt Working With NFL On Treatment, Counseling Program

Dec 9, 2018 10:50 AM

Kareem Hunt has started working with the NFL on a treatment and counseling program.

Hunt has voluntarily sought counseling after being involved in multiple violent off-the-field incidents this past year, all of which the league is now taking into consideration for potential future discipline.

The NFL's investigation is ongoing.

TMZ published a video on Nov. 30 of Hunt shoving and kicking a woman in a hotel hallway last February. The NFL placed Hunt on the commissioner's exempt list later that day, shortly before the Chiefs released him.

Todd Gurley Says He Wanted Rushing Title Last Season

Dec 7, 2018 8:47 AM

Todd Gurley finished 22 yards behind Kareem Hunt for the NFL's rushing title last season, something he said didn't bother him at the time.

Gurley sat out in Week 17 as the Los Angeles Rams got themselves ready for the playoffs.

"Yeah, I was lying, I really did care about the title," Gurley said. "That would be a pretty cool thing to get. I tell people that all the time: It's like you play for team goals but who wouldn't want to be the NFL sack leader? Who wouldn't want to be the NFL passing or rushing leader?"

Gurley enters Week 14 as the NFL's rushing leader, holding a 25-yard lead over Ezekiel Elliott.
