Jeremy Maclin Mentoring Kansas City's Young Receivers

Jun 29, 2016 9:22 AM

Jeremy Maclin has spent the offseason mentoring the Kansas City Chiefs' young wide receivers.

Maclin has worked with Chris Conley and Albert Wilson over a stretch from February to late April, lifting weights, watching film and working on route concepts.

The Chiefs added free agent Rod Streater and drafted Tyreek Hill, but Conley and Wilson held onto their spots during OTAs.

"Those are a couple of guys that I thought had good camps -- they're kind of growing up before our eyes here, which is fun to watch," Andy Reid said. "I think I'd tell you yes, that both of them working with Maclin paid off."

A typical offseason day for Maclin, Conley and Wilson started about 9 a.m. at the training facility. They ate breakfast, got in the weight room, then ran on the field. Then they’d go in the film room or practice footwork.

"I think it's my job to help them, and to help them understand that 'Hey, these are the things I do to get myself ready,'"said Maclin, who caught 87 passes for 1,088 yards and eight touchdowns in 2015, his first year in Kansas City. "I'm not necessarily saying this is what you have to do, but you can take bits and pieces and physically get yourself ready."

Jamaal Charles Returning To Practice For First Time Since ACL Tear

Jun 12, 2016 7:41 PM

Jamaal Charles will return to the Kansas City Chiefs' practice field on Tuesday for the first time since suffering a torn ACL.

Charles suffered the injury on Oct. 12th.

Fellow running backs Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West signed contract extensions this offseason to help insulate the Chiefs in case of another injury like the one Charles suffered in 2015.

Chiefs Want To Improve Two-Minute Offense

Jun 7, 2016 1:08 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs are hoping to improve their two-minute offense as the season approaches.

The Chiefs trailed the New England Patriots by two scores late in a playoff game this past season. It took them more than five minutes to score.

"We do this every year," Andy Reid said. "It's an important part of the game. So many games are determined in that last part of the game, in the fourth quarter. The parity in the league has really made that an important part of the game."

Alex Smith is notoriously a checkdown quarterback and Reid has had time management issues since his days with the Philadelphia Eagles.

"We could be better there," Reid said of quick, late-game offense. "Both sides of the ball, we could be better. It's about our working on it and we're doing that. We've got to capitalize on a few [more] situations there.

"It's a matter of just repping it, making sure I'm putting the guys in the right position. We've got to do that. We've got good players and we've got to make sure we've got an opportunity to make plays. It's important that the young guys see enough of the different looks, knowing when we have to get out of bounds, knowing we can score. All of these types of things are involved here and this is a good time to do it, when you can slow it down and work on it."
