Reid 'Sure' Chiefs Will Eventually Re-Sign Alex Smith

May 29, 2014 8:31 PM

Even though talks between the Kansas City Chiefs and Alex Smith have progressed slowly, Andy Reid is confident that a deal will be reached.

"Well, there's open communication between both parties. Now, I'm not in that business anymore -- that's (general manager) John Dorsey's side of it -- but there's been open communication," Reid said.

"I've always believed that if there's open communication, then normally good things happen. So, I'm sure something will get done. I can't put a time frame on that, but I'm sure something will get done."

The San Francisco 49ers ultimately added five players to their roster in exchange for Alex Smith.

The Chiefs, meanwhile, drafted Aaron Murray.

Dorsey also told SiriusXM NFL Radio's Alex Marvez last week that Smith and the Chiefs were "going back and forth."

"Eventually, as (with) all negotiations, there will be a medium point where both sides agree. Time will move on and we'll go to the next project," Dorsey said. "This thing will go on for a little bit. There's a degree of patience here. There's no reason to rush."

Dee Ford Honors Derrick Thomas By Wearing His College Number

Nov 12, 2014 2:48 PM

Dee Ford will wear No. 55 for the Kansas City Chiefs in honor of the late Derrick Thomas.

Ford wore No. 30 at Auburn, which wasn't an option due to NFL jersey rules.

"The opportunity presented itself," Ford said. "I'd play at any number, but of course 55 came available. This is Derrick Thomas' college number. It's all good. I'm not trying to be Derrick Thomas, but he's a guy that definitely inspired me."

The rookie chose Thomas' No. 55 that he wore at Alabama (1985-88) before Ford was even born (1992) and then wore No. 58 with the Chiefs.

Chiefs Willing To Trade Brandon Flowers

Nov 17, 2014 7:34 AM

The Kansas City Chiefs are willing to trade away cornerback Brandon Flowers in exchange for picks.

Due $5.25 million this season, Flowers is just three years into a six-year, $49.35 million contract.

Flowers was rated 96th in pass coverage by Pro Football Focus, but was still voted into the Pro Bowl.

Part of his struggles were scheme-specific. Flowers didn't transition well into coordinator Bob Sutton's defense.
