Oct 1, 2014 4:38 PM

The Kansas City Chiefs have traded QB Tyler Thigpen to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for an undisclosed selection in the 2010 NFL Draft. Thigpen (6-1, 224) played in 16 games (11 starts) in three seasons with Kansas City (2007-09). He completed 232 of 426 passes for 2,649 passes with 18 TDs and 13 INTs for a 74.7 rating. Thigpen was claimed off waivers by Kansas City from Minnesota in 2007 after originally entering the NFL as a seventh-round pick (217th overall) of the Vikings in the 2007 NFL Draft.

Cassel: I'm The Best Quarterback For Chiefs

May 17, 2014 7:20 AM

Matt Cassel believes that he is the best option for the Chiefs at quarterback. Some contend that Kansas City is going to start Cassel on Sunday against Philadelphia because of the contract he received this offseason that guarantees him $28 million. "I don't think a contract has anything to do with it," Cassel told the Associated Press. "I think they're going to play the best person out there." Chiefs coach Todd Haley claims that Cassel isn't receiving special treatment, despite his contract. "I think they're going to play the best person out there," Cassel said. "Obviously, I think they feel I'm the best guy for the job. Otherwise, going into the season I wouldn't have been offered what I was offered."

Pats Never Talked Trade For Gonzalez

Sep 13, 2014 11:43 AM

Despite connections to Kansas City, Bill Belichick said he never inquired about trading for tight end Tony Gonzalez, as the Falcons did in April. A month earlier, the Patriots had signed Chris Baker. ?And we have (Benjamin Watson [stats]),? Belichick said. ?We didn?t get into that. I never talked to Scott (Pioli) about Tony Gonzalez.?

Chiefs Would Listen To Offers For Bowe

Oct 23, 2014 7:14 PM

Adam Schefter of ESPN believes that the Chiefs would gladly listen to offers for receiver Dwayne Bowe. In a chat with readers, Schefter wrote: "... If a team out there made a good offer for Bowe, he would be gone tomorrow. Like I said, outside of [Matt] Cassel and [Tyson] Jackson, there's no Chief who can't be had for the right price. New regimes like their own players; this is not something new to Haley and Scott Pioli. This is a universal truth."

Haley Won't Hestiate To Pull Cassel

Feb 12, 2014 1:19 PM

Chiefs coach Todd Haley won't hesitate to pull Matt Cassel if he struggles, but Kansas City's new quarterback will continue to start. The Chiefs will face the Eagles on Sunday. "You've got to ultimately do what you think gives your team the best chance to win," Haley told the Associated Press. "If that means another quarterback being in there other than Matt Cassel, then sign me up."

Cassel To Be Game-Time Decision

Oct 7, 2014 10:34 PM

The Chiefs won't decide quarterback Matt Cassel's status for Sunday's game until right before kickoff. Cassel was also a game-time decision last Sunday because of a sprained left knee. Brodie Croyle will start for the second straight week if Cassel is unable to play. Kansas City cornerback Brandon Flowers will be a game-time decision as well. "These are both good guys that play critical spots, and you have the game-day roster to worry about, that if the guy's in there for one play and something goes wrong, quarterback or corner, now you're really short a player for the whole day," head coach Todd Haley said of Cassel and Flowers. "So that's what makes these decisions tough. It's not so much about, 'Hey, everyone wants to see Matt Cassel play,' or, 'Everyone wants to see Brandon Flowers,' but if you risk it and put 'em up and something happens early where they have a setback, now you're short players."

Haley Raised To Hate The Raiders

Mar 31, 2014 4:07 PM

Todd Haley will experience his first rivalry game as head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs and he was practically raised to hate the Raiders. Haley, whose father worked for decades in the Pittsburgh Steelers? organization, said Tuesday that he grew up with sour feelings toward the Raiders. He used the word ?hate? a handful of times. He didn?t back down a day later, playfully saying that rivalries make some games more intense. ?I don?t think it goes away,? he said with a smile, ?but I wouldn?t want anyone to take it personal over there. ?That being said, I don?t care if it?s Oakland, San Diego or Denver ? those games obviously weigh in the playoffs different than the other games. ? It?s a big game.?

Chiefs Unsure Of Cassel's Status

May 16, 2014 10:01 PM

The Chiefs still don't know if quarterback Matt Cassel will be ready to play against the Raiders on Sunday. Cassel missed Kansas City's season opener because of an injury to his left knee. If Cassel is unable to start, Brodie Croyle will start for the second straight week. "Matt is doing everything he can to be ready," head coach Todd Haley said. "I would hope I would know a little sooner this week, although right now I can't give a definitive answer. But the player's doing everything he can to be ready, which generally helps speed the healing process."
