The Chiefs have fired Chan Gailey as offensive coordinator, according to an Associated Press report.
The Chiefs said head coach Todd Haley would address Gailey?s status with the team after Monday?s practice.
Cassel Reportedly Has Sprained MCL
Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel could miss two-four weeks with a strained MCL in his left knee.
Yahoo! Sports, citing a source within the organization, is reporting that the injury could keep Cassel out for the team's season opener.
He was hurt Saturday night when sacked on the third play of a preseason loss to Seattle.
Cassel Leaves Loss With Leg Injury
The Chiefs lost quarterback Matt Cassel in their preseason loss to the Seahawks on Saturday night.
Cassel, who was on the field for just three plays, limped off to the locker room with a leg injury.
Seattle won the game 14-10.
The quarterback was injured the first time he dropped back to pass, dragged down from behind after the pocket collapsed. Cassel called timeout, then limped down the tunnel toward the locker room with a left leg injury and didn't return.
Jaguars Remain Interested In Thigpen
The Jaguars are still interested in Chiefs quarterback Tyler Thigpen.
Kansas City is open to trading Thigpen, according to NFL.com's Jason La Canfora.
Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli is asking for a third round pick for Thigpen, which is believed to be an awful lot for a quarterback of his caliber.
Jacksonville's best offer for Thigpen has included a fifth-rounder.
LJ: Chiefs Could Have Gotten Rid Of Me
Larry Johnson says that the Chiefs would have gotten rid of him if they really wanted to this past offseason.
"If they wanted to get rid of me," Johnson told the Kansas City Star, "they had a chance to get rid of me."
Instead, the Chiefs held onto Johnson, who has changed his mood in recent months. Johnson admitted that he didn't often see eye-to-eye with former coach Herm Edwards.
Jags Make Offer For Tyler Thigpen
The Jaguars have offered a fifth-round pick to Kansas City for quarterback Tyler Thigpen, but the Chiefs want a higher pick.
Jaguars general manager Gene Smith did not return an e-mail requesting a comment on the report.
The Jaguars might be trying to replace veteran backup Todd Bouman, who had several passes batted down against Tampa Bay on Saturday night.
Several Backup Quarterbacks Could Be Dealt
Roster cuts are coming in the NFL next week, which means that we should see can increase in trades.
Adam Schefter of ESPN wrote on Wednesday that Tyler Thigpen, Luke McCown and A.J. Feeley could be available on the trade market.
Teams must reduce their rosters to 75 players by Tuesday and 53 players by Sept. 5.
Bowe Back In Kansas City's Starting Lineup
The Chiefs have put receiver Dwyane Bowe back in their starting lineup.
Bowe was put on the third-team offense early in training camp because of what the team called a lackadaisical attitude.
"That's pretty obvious ... that you've seen a progression from Dwayne that's encouraging from the early days of camp to where he's at now," coach Todd Haley told the Kansas City Star. "He's made very good progress. Is he there? No. Does he need to make more plays? Yes.
"That's what coaching is all about: trying to push the right buttons all the time with a lot of different guys."
Dolphins Trade Ndukwe, Alleman To Chiefs
The Dolphins have traded offensive linemen Ikechuku Ndukwe and Andy Alleman to the Chiefs.
What Miami has received in exchange for the two players isn't yet known.
The pair started a combined 20 games for the Dolphins last season when injuries created holes on their line.
The Dolphins also terminated the contract of Ernest Wilford.
Chiefs Try To Diffuse QB Controversy
Coach Todd Haley said he meant no disrespect for quarterback Matt Cassel when Haley refused to say whether he thought Cassel was the best quarterback in training camp.
Between committing turnovers and being off-target with some throws, Cassel hasn?t played particularly well during camp. On some days he has been outplayed by Brodie Croyle.
?This is a full-time evaluation,? Haley said. ?It?s everything that?s going on. You have game situations in which one quarterback?s situation may have been a little different than another?s. The plays called may have been different. There are a lot of things that go into the equation, (so) I don?t think it?s fair (to) any of those guys to answer that question.
?It had nothing to do with my feelings towards anybody. (Cassel is) working hard. He?s into it. He cares about it. This is training camp. We?re trying to evaluate a lot of guys, a lot of different receivers, running backs, tight ends, line, the whole deal.?
