Culpepper Begins Contract Talks With Lions After Workout
Veteran quarterback Daunte Culpepper visited the Lions Tuesday morning and has initiated contract negotiations following a workout, according to an ESPN.com report.
On Tuesday morning, Culpepper, who announced last week he was coming out of retirement, notified the Chiefs he is looking at the Lions more than the Chiefs.
Larry Johnson Charged With Simple Assault
Larry Johnson has been charged with simple assault for spitting his drink in a woman?s face, according to an Associated Press report.
Kansas City police spokesman Darin Snapp said Johnson was charged Monday and turned himself in, later being released after posting a $500 bond.
Culpepper Makes Himself Available
Daunte Culpepper is reconsidering retirement and has made himself available after being contacted by a number of teams in the past two months.
Culpepper was contacted by the Chiefs this week as they continue to struggle as quarterback. Kansas City ended up signing Quinn Gray.
"A number of teams have contacted me since my retirement announcement and have provided some important information that has caused me to reconsider returning to the league," Culpepper said.
"As much as I have enjoyed my brief break from playing, I know that I love the game and I have some unfinished business in the NFL. It has never been because of a lack of passion for the game but rather the absence of a fair opportunity to compete and play that caused me to retire."
Kansas City Signs QB Quinn Gray
The Chiefs have signed free agent quarterback Quinn Gray, and he was with the team for practice on Wednesday.
Gray, who formerly played for the Jaguars, beat out Bruce Gradkowski for a contract, who also worked out for the team on Tuesday.

Chiefs' running back Larry Johnson has apologized for his recent legal woes but will still sit for the second-straight week.
Kansas City Coach Herm Edwards also named Tyler Thigpen the team's starting quarterback against the Jets this Sunday.
Chiefs May Decide To Bench RB Johnson
Chiefs' Coach Herm Edwards hinted on Tuesday that the team could bench running back Larry Johnson for a second-straight game.
Johnson is under NFL investigation for allegedly assaulting a woman.
"Decisions of all that will take place when it has to be made," Edwards said. "I don't have to make a decision on who's starting, not starting. That's kind of where that's at. Whatever I do, hopefully, I think you know me by now, people know me by now, I'm going to do the right thing for the football team. That's where it stands with me."
Johnson, a two-time Pro Bowler who rushed for more than 1,700 yards in both 2005 and 2006, was not activated last week as punishment for violating team rules.
Chiefs Could Sign Culpepper
The Chiefs talked with Daunte Culpepper on Monday, a day after they lost Brodie Croyle for the season because of torn knee ligaments.
A decision on whether the Chiefs would sign Culpepper did not appear imminent. A deal might not come until next week if one is reached at all.
Kansas City's Croyle Out For Season
Chiefs quarterback Brodie Croyle will miss the remainder of the season with a sprained right knee.
Croyle returned from a separated shoulder on Sunday against the Titans, but just fourteen plays into the game, he was knocked out with ligament damage in his knee.
"He's been hurt, there's no doubt about that," Chiefs coach Herm Edwards said. "This is the worst one he's had. This is a tough one here. This is the rest of the year, so it's tough on everybody; tough for him, tough for this football team."
Eagles Made Play For Both Gonzalez And Winslow?
The Eagles reportedly made offers for both Kansas City tight end Tony Gonzalez and Cleveland's Kellen Winslow prior to Tuesday's NFL trade deadline.
However, the Chiefs didn't feel as though Philadelphia was offering enough for Gonzalez and ultimately opt against trading him anywhere.
The Eagles reportedly offered Kansas City a fourth-round pick for Gonzalez.
