Kansas City Looking At Drummond

Jul 10, 2014 1:53 AM

In what could be a sign they aren?t satisfied with their return specialists, the Chiefs worked out former Pro Bowler Eddie Drummond on Saturday. He was released by the Lions last week. Drummond, who played five seasons for Detroit, was second in the NFC in punt-return average at 10.6. Drummond was the NFC?s Pro Bowl return specialist after the 2004 season. Drummond is also a wide receiver but probably wouldn?t help the Chiefs much there. He caught only four passes for the Lions in five seasons.

Report: Huard Named Chiefs Starting QB

Jul 10, 2014 1:51 AM

Damon Huard apparently will be under center when the Chiefs open the regular season against the Texans on September 9. The Kansas City Star reported on its web site Saturday that coach Herman Edwards has tabbed Huard the club's starting quarterback over Brodie Croyle. According to the report, Edwards made the move to go with Huard after Croyle struggled in Thursday's 30-7 preseason loss to New Orleans.

Brees, Saints Dominate Chiefs

Oct 26, 2014 7:10 PM

With one preseason game to go, Drew Brees was already showing off his Pro Bowl form. The same cannot be said of the Chiefs, whose murky quarterback picture was only muddied further Thursday night as Brodie Croyle struggled and a nearly perfect Brees led the Saints to a dominating 30-7 victory.

HBO Influenced LJ's Negotiations?

Sep 24, 2014 2:34 AM

It seems the producers at HBO?s ?Hard Knocks? were slightly concerned about Larry Johnson's quote in the Star on Wednesday, a quote explaining why he finally chose to sign. ?The guys on the ?Hard Knocks? staff would tell me and show me interviews from guys on the team saying they missed me,? LJ told Star columnist Jason Whitlock. ?That really got me.? The implication is that ?Hard Knocks? went beyond the boundaries of coverage and somehow influenced LJ?s decision to sign. Not the case, said HBO spokesman Kevin Flaherty. ?Larry didn?t get any more access to footage than anyone else,? Flaherty said. ?If Larry saw guys talking about him, it came from the footage on the actual show. ?We talked to him for about an hour down in Arizona for the first show, and the guys on that crew didn?t have the capability of showing him anything we?d shot elsewhere. Whatever (Johnson) saw, everyone else saw as well.?

The Chiefs Without Room For Priest?

Aug 6, 2014 7:47 AM

The signing of Larry Johnson leaves Priest Holmes' future in Kansas City rather cloudy. He didn?t practice again Tuesday. Unless the Chiefs do something unorthodox, like keep four running backs, the Chiefs appear to have no roster room for Holmes. Their other options for Holmes are to release him or keep him on the physically unable to perform list, which means he couldn?t play in the season?s first six games. Asked whether the Chiefs would release Holmes if it came to that, Peterson said, ?Priest has to make this football team on his merits. He accumulated some merits over the years. ?If Priest is with us, it will not be in the same capacity as before. I think and Herm thinks he could be a marvelous situational running back. That?s short-yardage, goal-line, screens and draws. He?s not going to carry it or touch it as much as when he was with us (before).?

Chiefs Announce Johnson Extension

Apr 2, 2014 3:40 AM

Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Tuesday that RB Larry Johnson has agreed to a contract renegotiation for 2007 and five-year extension that will keep him under contract through the 2012 season. As per Chiefs policy, no further terms of the agreement were announced. ?It?s been a little bit of a lengthy negotiation, but I think, a good one, a fair one on both sides,? Peterson said. ?He?s obviously very important to this organization and a big part of our offense. It?s good to have him here. We?re glad he?s going to be here ? perhaps for the remainder of his career. I hope it goes beyond six years. We are looking forward to the start of the regular season and we are pleased that Larry is on the field with his teammates, getting prepared for Opening Day in Houston.?

Larry Johnson has agreed in principle to a new six-year, $45 million deal with Kansas City, FOXSports.com has learned. The contract includes $19 million in guaranteed money. Johnson is expected to rejoin his team on Tuesday. While his teammates were holding two-a-days in River Falls, Wisconin, Johnson spent training camp working out at Athletes Performance Institute in Tempe, Arizona. "It was a long, hard negotiation," general manager Carl Peterson said, according to AP. "We are very happy to have all our children in camp now."

Huard's Injury Tilts QB Job To Croyle

Jun 7, 2014 4:13 PM

The Chiefs? quarterback competition appeared to be tipping toward Brodie Croyle anyway, but Damon Huard?s sore leg could end all of the suspense. Huard didn?t practice Monday. He stood close by with an ice pack on his chronically sore right calf. He noticeably favored the leg when he walked. Huard has been bothered by the sore calf during training camp, but this was the first time he missed a practice because of it. There was no indication the injury would keep him out long term, but the Chiefs were unsure whether he would practice today or play in Thursday night?s preseason game against New Orleans at Arrowhead Stadium. ?I don?t know that,? coach Herm Edwards said. ?I?ve got to check with the trainer to see what he says. We?ve got another couple of days to see where he is.?

Is Priest Holmes Just Looking For A Pay Day?

Apr 12, 2014 12:45 PM

Inspirational Chiefs leader Priest Holmes boarded a Midwest Airlines, Kansas City-to-San Antonio flight a little more than six hours before kickoff of Thursday?s Dolphins-Chiefs exhibition game, according to multiple sources. The man who shocked fans, teammates and coaches by announcing his comeback and his intentions to be a ?leader? and ?make this team a whole entity? apparently was nowhere near Arrowhead Stadium while his teammates worked. Thursday evening, Herm Edwards and two members of Kansas City?s media-relations staff stated that Holmes was somewhere inside the stadium. If so, the once lightning-quick back had a ridiculously busy travel schedule during a 24-hour period. A Midwest Airlines employee and an airport security staffer both told me they witnessed Holmes board a 1:35 p.m. flight headed to San Antonio that was supposed to arrive around 3:40 p.m. Thursday. And a source in Texas confirmed that Holmes spent Friday in the Lone Star State.
