Green Has No Interest In Returning To Chiefs

May 20, 2014 8:19 PM

After the Chiefs failed to trade Trent Green to the Miami Dolphins during the weekend draft, agent Jim Steiner said Green wasn?t interested in playing for the Chiefs. ?Trent?s not going to be returning,? Steiner said. ?They?ve said Brodie Croyle is going to be the No. 1 or No. 2 quarterback. They brought back Damon Huard. They?ve told Trent they want to get younger. So the Chiefs determined that, not Trent. That?s not going to happen. It?s grossly unfair of the Chiefs to keep Trent on their roster.? President/general manager Carl Peterson continued to insist Green would be welcome to play for the Chiefs next season.

Kansas City Rejects Miami's Offer For Green

May 18, 2014 12:18 AM

The Dolphins offered Kansas City a sixth-round pick for Green this weekend, but Chiefs president Carl Peterson declined the offer, according to Green's agent Jim Steiner. The Chiefs have consistently sought a second-round pick in return for Green, who could ultimately be released. "We'll address it in the next few days and see if we can get something resolved," said Steiner, who had worked out a new contract with the Dolphins contingent on the trade. "At this point, I don't know what the Chiefs are going to get for him from the Dolphins. I don't know how they get anything." The Chiefs granted permission to Green to seek a trade in February after telling him that he would have to take a pay cut to stay and also compete for the starting job with second-year man Brodie Croyle.

Cheifs Insist They're Not Dealing Johnson

Sep 16, 2014 6:26 AM

Team spokesman Bob Moore said Thursday the Chiefs have not offered Larry Johnson to anybody and that no team has been given permission to speak with him. ?Anybody who is reporting it?s true is simply not telling the truth,? Moore said. Johnson has been participating in the Chiefs? offseason program. He signed a seven-year contract in 2003, but he can void it down to a five-year deal after the final game of the season because of playing time incentives. He has not yet indicated whether he plans to do so. Rumors that Kansas City wants to trade the brooding back, who carried the ball an NFL-record 416 times last season, surfaced as the team scrambles to acquire draft picks. The Kansas City Star, without citing a source, reported Thursday that the team had offered Johnson up for trade.

Chiefs Trade Hall To St. Louis

Oct 27, 2014 6:37 PM

Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Wednesday that the club traded WR Dante Hall to the St. Louis Rams in exchange for a fifth-round draft choice (148th overall). In addition, the two clubs also exchanged positions in the third round, moving the Chiefs up in the third round to the 82nd overall selection. With the deal for Hall, Kansas City now has seven picks in the 2007 NFL Draft. The fifth-round pick obtained for Hall was originally acquired by the Rams from Buffalo. ?This trade allows us to get back to seven draft choices in the 2007 draft,? President Carl Peterson commented. ?We feel that it?s always important to have at least seven draft picks and, hopefully, we?ll be able to acquire another one or two in the days to come. Dante has been an outstanding performer both on the field and in the community. He?s been a very valuable player in this organization and a very productive one and we wish him the very best.?

Chiefs Appear Set To Draft Running Back

May 30, 2014 2:14 AM

The Chiefs appear eager to either draft a running back a week from Sunday. They met with at least four of the higher-profile running backs available in the coming draft: California?s Marshawn Lynch, Ohio State?s Antonio Pittman, Florida State?s Lorenzo Booker and Louisville?s Kolby Smith. Oklahoma?s Adrian Peterson, widely considered the top running back available in the draft, did not visit with the Chiefs this week. Neither did some of the other top runners, including Arizona?s Chris Henry, Auburn?s Kenny Irons, Penn State?s Tony Hunt and Alabama?s Kenneth Darby. The Chiefs were unavailable Thursday to speak about their motives. But the agents for all of the players said the Chiefs told them they planned to draft a running back in an early round. ?They?ve put that out there,? said Smith?s agent, Jerrold Colton. ?They said they want the running-back duties shared a little more to save the wear and tear on (Johnson).? Johnson and the Chiefs have worked on a new contract that would give him a raise, but they don?t have an agreement yet. Johnson has not threatened to hold out if he doesn?t get a new deal and has been participating in the offseason workout program. The Chiefs reportedly could even trade Johnson if the right deal presented itself.

Sources: Dolphins To Step-Up Efforts For Trent Green

Dec 14, 2014 12:59 AM

Having watched their offense sputter under the direction of a pair of journeymen QB's during a three-day weekend minicamp that concluded on Sunday, the Dolphins are expected this week to ramp up their efforts to complete a much-discussed trade for Kansas City Chiefs' Trent Green. Coupled with Daunte Culpepper's unsure future, Cleo Lemon and Gibran Hamdan have done nothing to dissuade the Dolphins from going hard after Green. Citing unnamed sources, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported that the trade could be completed this week, which would likely lead to the release of Culpepper, who was unable to participate in the minicamp as he continues recovering from knee surgery. League sources told ESPN.com that officials from the Dolphins and Chiefs, who have been talking about the trade for more than a month, recently resumed negotiations.

Cleveland To Ramp Up Pursuit Of Green

Jun 29, 2014 1:34 PM

The Browns are apparently ready to step up their pursuit of Chiefs quarterback Trent Green. Browns General Manager Phil Savage told WTAM AM/1100 on Thursday morning that the next step is to negotiate a "ballpark contract" for Green that would prompt him to want to come to Cleveland for a visit. Green's agent, Jim Steiner, declined to comment Thursday night on possible negotiations - but also didn't deny that they've begun.
