Jack Del Rio Didn't Know Jaguars Would Draft Blaine Gabbert

Jun 26, 2019 10:19 AM

Jack Del Rio says he had no idea the Jacksonville Jaguars would draft Blaine Gabbert with the 10th overall pick in 2011.

Gabbert went 13-35 as a starter for the Jaguars.

Del Rio wasn't even in the draft room when general manager Gene Smith traded up for Gabbert.

"I had no idea we were going to draft Blaine Gabbert," Del Rio said. "No idea. In fact, I left to go get something to eat because our pick wasn't for much longer in the draft. I go and then I'm sitting there filling my plate thinking, 'Oh great, we've got a couple more hours until we pick.' Then I see, 'The Jaguars are on the clock.' I'm like, 'What the blank is going on?' I walk into the draft room, and I could see it on the faces of the people in the room. They knew how uncomfortable that was, how wrong that was."

The Jaguars moved up six spots to take Gabbert.

"He wasn't a first rounder," Del Rio added. "He wasn't a guy to trade and go up to get him ... So that was not part of coaching, that was not part of me. That was my first indication that my time there in J-ville was running short."

Jalen Ramsey Done Criticizing Opposing Quarterbacks

Jun 26, 2019 10:06 AM

Jalen Ramsey has made headlines by publicly criticizing opposing quarterbacks, but the cornerback says he's matured.

Ramsey was asked on Adam Schefter's podcast if he wanted to evaluate the quarterbacks he'll face in 2019.

"You want to do this again, huh? I'm not going to do this again, but we do play some good quarterbacks this year, of course, but probably the quarterback I'm most excited for is Nick Foles," Ramsey said. "I don't have to play against him, of course. He is my teammate. He is a great teammate -- the few interactions we've had has been great. Great man, great player as well. He has nothing to prove to anybody. He's a Super Bowl champion, Super Bowl MVP. So I hope he comes out here and he plays free and knows he has the support of everybody."

In a 2018 interview with GQ magazine, Ramsey caused a stir by belittling several quarterbacks, calling Matt Ryan "overrated" and Josh Allen "trash."

"I'm growing, man, it's Year 4 for me. It's a different me. A lot of people think they know me. They don't really know me. But hey, that's OK," he said.

Jaguars Tell Jalen Ramsey No Extension Will Be Signed In 2019

Jun 11, 2019 9:43 PM

The Jacksonville Jaguars told the agent of Jalen Ramsey they don't plan on extending his contract in 2019.

Ramsey said he wasn't angry or upset that he wouldn't be getting an extension this season, the final year of his rookie contract. The Jaguars picked up his fifth-year option, which means he would make $13.703 million in 2020 but the contract would be guaranteed for injury only, and the team could use the franchise tag in 2021.

"As long as I'm a part of this organization, as long as I'm a part of Duval County, I'm going to give the city and the players all I've got, and I think y'all know that," Ramsey said. "I've fought through injuries. I've fought through everything, haven't missed a game. I think I'm in a similar situation as Yan [Yannick Ngakoue], as where I feel like I have outplayed my rookie contract and I feel I've earned a new contract.

"But at the end of the day, it's not the end of the world. I'm tremendously blessed. I'm so blessed. I'm not down on it or anything like that at all, but that is the circumstance. That is what I've been told."

Calais Campbell: Jaguars Season 'Comes Down To Nick Foles'

Jun 5, 2019 9:32 AM

After coming within one victory of Super Bowl LII, the Jacksonville Jaguars struggled through a 5-11 season in 2018.

This offseason, the Jaguars replaced Blake Bortles with Nick Foles.

Calais Campbell, one of the team's veteran cornerstones, is placing a lot of pressure on the quarterback.

"The thing I love about this year is it really comes down to Nick Foles," Campbell said. "He's a guy who's over 30, has a lot of experience, won a Super Bowl MVP, but really what he brings is that confidence. He's a natural leader. When he breaks the team huddle at the end of practice, you can see guys really hear him and that's so important. Obviously what he can do throwing the ball is great, but what he does for the actual overall team, giving us more confidence and belief..."
