Gardner Minshew Can't 'Worry' About Nick Foles' Potential Return

Oct 30, 2019 9:56 AM

Nick Foles is eligible to return to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 11, but Gardner Minshew is trying to remain focused on the field.

"It's something I can't really worry about right now," the rookie quarterback said. "Every half-way competitive guy ever, you want to be the guy out there helping your team win, there is no doubt about that. But at the end of the day, we just want to win, and whatever we've got to do to make it happen, we're going to do it."

Foles broke his collarbone in Week 1.

"It's been crazy," the rookie said of being thrust into the starting lineup. "I knew at some point I'd get an opportunity to play. I didn't think it would be the first quarter of the first game, like how it went. But I've been trying to do my job. A lot of guys have been working hard."

Jets Still Upset With Jaguars Running Up Score Last Season

Oct 25, 2019 9:04 AM

The New York Jets still remember the Jacksonville Jaguars running up the score last season when the two teams played.

"Simply put, it was disrespectful as hell," linebacker Brandon Copeland said.

The Jets believe Doug Marrone showed no class by running up the score in the final two minutes of a 31-12 victory. Instead of taking a knee, the Jaguars ran three times inside the Jets' 9-yard line and scored. They even attempted a 2-point conversion, which failed.

"I thought it was pretty disrespectful," Leonard Williams said. "The game was already won. There was only a minute-and-a-half left to go. Not only did they keep running the ball to try to score again, they also went for two points, which was even more over the top.

"I felt it was even putting their own players at risk for getting injured even though the game was already over," Williams continued. "You know what I mean? I think it's a little disrespectful."

Rams COO: The NBA Is Coming To The NFL

Oct 21, 2019 11:14 AM

The Los Angeles Rams acquired Jalen Ramsey last week from the Jacksonville Jaguars in a deal that some in the NFL compare to the type of transaction now typically seen within the NBA. Ramsey sought a trade from the Jaguars over several weeks and the Rams finally traded their 2020 first round pick along with first and fourth round picks in 2021.

“The NBA is coming to the NFL," said Rams Chief Operating Officer Kevin Demoff. "This [the Ramsey trade] is a similar case to those NBA deals.

“Prior team-building formulas, where you basically had guys for their careers, is pretty much over,” he said. “Think of the guys who’ve moved in the past year. Khalil Mack. Marcus Peters. Jalen Ramsey. Jarvis Landry. Laremy Tunsil—”

Bill Polian believes the younger generation of general managers are more transactional.

“I think this generation of GMs might be a little more transactional," said Polian. "It used to be not many GMs thought about taking risks. They were from a generation where their parents might have grown up in the Depression, or remembered the Depression. Life was hard enough without taking risks. Today, the idea that you can make these decisions and change your team quickly is inculcated in this generation. I’m not sure of that, but it seems to be true.”

There have clearly been a spike in trades this season.

2009: 39 trades in the calendar year, involving 50 players. Seven traded players were Pro Bowlers at least once.

2019: 54 trades (with eight days left in the period), involving 69 players. Thirteen have been to at least one Pro Bowl.

Jaguars Worried About Gardner Minshew Taking Low Hits

Oct 8, 2019 8:58 AM

The Jacksonville Jaguars are thrilled with the play of Gardner Minshew II, but they are worried about the quarterback taking low hits.

Minshew has been wearing a knee brace since taking several hits against the Denver Broncos.

"I would hope that everyone's doing what they're supposed to do and those are penalties for hitting him low," Doug Marrone said. "I think you get concerned when things are happening to your team that aren't getting called. ...

"Obviously, those things … We have the ability to turn them in, make people aware of it prior to [a game]. But ... during the course of the game, you like to see that stuff get called and make sure that player safety is the number one thing that we harp on and we talk about. So, that's the one thing that we should be doing well."

Shad Khan: Jaguars Have No Plans To Trade Jalen Ramsey

Oct 3, 2019 9:36 AM

The Jacksonville Jaguars continue to resist trading Jalen Ramsey.

Shad Khan says "the best thing is to have him be part of the team."

Ramsey's agent requested a trade Sept. 15 following a heated argument with Doug Marrone on the sideline and a much-less-public exchange with Tom Coughlin following a loss.

The owner, however, hasn't budged.

"Obviously, football is a team sport and I'm sensitive to what individual insight or viewpoint or requests [there] might be," Khan said. "But we have to do the right thing for the team. We value the values Jalen adds to us, to the Jaguars. I think we value him highly. We're still looking at what is the right thing for the Jaguars, and I think right now the best thing is to have him be part of the team."
