Leonard Fournette Wants To Play This Week

Aug 29, 2017 8:41 AM

Leonard Fournette hasn't played in the Jacksonville Jaguars' last two preseason games because of a foot injury, but he returned to practice over the weekend and wants to play in the exhibition finale.

"Hopefully coach will put me in and we'll see," Fournette said. "Most definitely a drive or two, man, just to get back in a rhythm with the team, especially with the game speed. I go against our defense everyday and we have one of the best in the league right now. So when the first game come, I feel like nobody is going to lose pace or nothing."

The fourth preseason game traditionally sees stars on the sidelines instead of on the field.

Doug Marrone: Blake Bortles Is 'Best I've Seen Him'

Aug 29, 2017 8:37 AM

Blake Bortles has never looked better than he has during the three-day stretch since being renamed the starter for the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday, according to Doug Marrone.

"I think he's doing a nice job," Marrone said. "I really do. For me, personally, it's the best I've seen him."

Marrone joined the franchise in 2015 as the offensive line coach. The Jaguars gave Chad Henne a chance to grab hold of the quarterback job after Bortles struggled early in the preseason.

"I feel like I'm just playing," Bortles said. "I feel comfortable. I feel confident with the system. I feel comfortable in it. I feel comfortable with the guys that I'm playing with.

"You take each individual play as its own entity and you go out there and go through it and play it and do as best as you possibly can and then move on, good or bad, move on from it and do the same thing with the next one."

Jaguars Name Blake Bortles Starting Quarterback

Aug 26, 2017 10:14 AM

The Jacksonville Jaguars have named Blake Bortles their starting quarterback to open the 2017 season.

Bortles started the first and second games of the preseason before Chad Henne started the third game. On Thursday, Henne completed eight of 14 passes for 73 yards and no touchdowns with no interceptions. Bortles completed 12 of 16 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown with an interception.

Bortles was the third overall pick by the Jaguars in 2014 and became their starter in Week 4 that season.

Jaguars Aren't Ready To Name Starting Quarterback

Aug 25, 2017 8:06 AM

The Jacksonville Jaguars have played three preseason games, but they aren't ready to name a starting quarterback for Week 1 of the regular season.

Doug Marrone came out of Thursday's preseason game against the Carolina Panthers unconvinced that either Chad Henne or Blake Bortles are running away with the job.

"I'm not going to stand up here and comment a lot on the two," Marrone said. "I'm going to go back and look at things and see where we're at."

Henne was promoted to the first-string role last week after two uninspiring starts by Bortles.

Jaguars Open Up Quarterback Competition With Blake Bortles Struggling

Aug 18, 2017 11:47 AM

The Jacksonville Jaguars are opening up their quarterback competition following Blake Bortles' bad performance in Thursday's preseason game.

Chad Henne will share first-team reps with Bortles.

"I'm looking for someone that's going to lead this offense," Doug Marrone said. "I'm not happy with the performance today. I'm not going to sit here and B.S. anyone. Everyone saw it out there. Whatever you want to call it, I'm still trying to evaluate who the best person is at that position."

Bortles was 8-for-13 for 65 yards over four drives that all led in punts. Henne also got snaps with the first-team offense late in the first half Thursday.

Leonard Fournette: NFL Slower Than Expected

Aug 11, 2017 9:34 AM

One preseason game into his career, Leonard Fournette sees the NFL as a much easier transition than expected.

"It's a lot slower than I really thought," Fournette said. "That's how I've been since I first got into the NFL. A lot of people were like, 'It's going to be fast.' But by me playing in the SEC, that kind of helped me a lot.

"I think, to me, it was really easy."

The Jacksonville Jaguars beat the New England Patriots 31-24 on Thursday night. The fourth overall pick rushed for 31 yards on nine carries and scored on a 1-yard touchdown run.

"I've had pressure my whole life," Fournette said. "I'm built for it. No matter what the circumstances, I've never let the game get bigger than me and I've always stayed humble. That's No. 1."

Blake Bortles Sees Improvement In Jaguars' Offense

Aug 9, 2017 8:15 AM

Blake Bortles says he "definitely" sees improvement in the Jacksonville Jaguars' offense this summer.

Bortles went 5-for-17 in a joint workout with the New England Patriots on Tuesday.

"It was about what we can do, how we react in the situation and how can we continue to get better," Bortles said. "Up front, [the Patriots] single everybody up and that made everything one-on-one as far as the blocking schemes and then they do a lot of different things in coverage with their safeties, whether they're sprinting their guys down or staying high and doing different stuff.

"There is no doubt there has been some bad stuff that's happened that we have to fix and continue to work on, but I think if you watched 7-on-7s [Tuesday] or 1-on-1s, there weren't a whole lot of times we got stopped. We just have to find a way to carry that over into the 11-on-11."

Branden Albert Seeks Return To Jaguars

Aug 7, 2017 10:39 PM

Branden Albert retired last week from the NFL, but he already wants to return to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Albert would owe the Jaguars $3.4 million in signing-bonus forfeiture if he remained retired. He is also subject to fines of up to $40,000 per day for the time he was away from the team.

Albert was traded by the Dolphins to the Jags before skipping offseason workouts in hopes of acquiring a new deal.

Albert has started 118 games over nine seasons.
