The Jacksonville Jaguars are not committed to starting Blake Bortles at quarterback next season.

"There's plenty of work for everybody to do, Blake included," Tom Coughlin said during a Friday news conference before the NFL scouting combine. "To raise the game to a higher level, it takes all components, though. ... And that's why I mentioned the protection, first of all. [It also entails] people being in the right place at the right time, the timing, taking care of the football, which is paramount to that position.

"There can be no way the ball is turned over to that extent, so I think he'd be the first one to say that he has a lot of work to do. But we all have a lot of work to do, so I'm going to put it that way."

The Miami Dolphins have acquired Julius Thomas and a 2018 first round pick from the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for Branden Albert and a 2017 seventh round pick.

Thomas also will restructure his contract upon completion of the trade. He is expected to be in Miami on Tuesday to meet with the Dolphins.

With the acquisition of Thomas, Miami has filled a major need at tight end. Former starters Jordan Cameron and Dion Sims suffered through injuries and inconsistency, and both will be unrestricted free agents in March.

Thomas worked with Adam Gase when both were with the Denver Broncos.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have released defensive end Jared Odrick.

Jacksonville signed Odrick to a five-year contract worth $42.5 million with $22.5 million guaranteed in March 2015.

He played in 22 games but missed the final 10 games in 2016 with elbow and shoulder injuries.

The Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars are working on a swap involving Branden Albert and Julius Thomas, according to a report.

There are still details that need to be worked out, including the possibility of more players.

It was reported last week that the Dolphins planned to cut Albert, but that didn't happen when Miami found interest in him.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are nearing a four-year, $16 million deal with Abry Jones, according to multiple reports.

Jones, 25, took over as Jacksonville's starter at nose tackle for the final nine games of 2016 after Roy Miller suffered a torn Achilles.

He originally signed as an undrafted rookie free agent in April 2013.
