Jay Glazer: Andrew Luck Didn't 'Sour On Business Of Football'

Aug 29, 2019 1:50 PM

Jay Glazer doesn't believe Andrew Luck "soured on the business of football" and that his retirement was more due the reality of being physically unable to play.

"Obviously, only Andrew Luck can answer that but guys like (Barry) Sanders and I think Megatron (Calvin Johnson) soured on the business of football. This wasn’t Andrew Luck souring on the business of football. This was him constantly dealing with pain for the last several years and I think he believed he was in a rut. It was injuries, rehab — rehab never went as fast as they had hoped — injury, rehab, pain, rinse and repeat. He just got exhausted.

"The one thing that brings players back or gets players to reconsider is the locker room. That’s the biggest thing. It’s not the meetings, it’s certainly not the pounding they take on their bodies, it’s not practice, and for a lot of them, it’s not even about the games. It’s the locker room (and competing in something to a degree). It’s being around the guys. If Andrew Luck feels a void there, that could draw him back."

Jaguars LS Offers To Buy Tickets From Angry Colts Fans

Aug 27, 2019 8:12 AM

Jacksonville Jaguars long-snapper Matt Overton is offering to buy season tickets from Indianapolis Colts fans looking for refunds in the wake of Andrew Luck's retirement.

Overton, who played five seasons with the Colts (2012-16), made the offer on Twitter after seeing reports on social media that Colts season-ticket holders wanted their money back.

He said he plans to donate the tickets to Riley Hospital for Children in downtown Indianapolis.

"Riley Hospital is near and dear to me," Overton said. "It's near and dear to the entire community of Indianapolis and if we can help these kids and families go to a game and cheer on their favorite team, the Colts, let's make it happen."

A Colts spokesman said the team has received only a handful of calls seeking refunds.

Aaron Rodgers Calls Fans Booing Andrew Luck 'Disgusting'

Aug 27, 2019 8:07 AM

Aaron Rodgers came to Andrew Luck's defense on Monday, calling fans that booed the quarterback in the wake of his decision to retire "disgusting."

"I thought it was pretty disgusting," Rodgers said. "He's making a really tough decision and then before that, he makes the decision, I don't know why that doesn't stay in house to kind of protect him a little bit. Although when I think about it, I thought it would've been more of a standing-ovation type thing and a thank you than boos.

"I, 100 percent, respect him immensely for his decision. I salute him for choosing quality of life. He's a fantastic player, he had a great career and he's got a lot to be proud of. Like many of us in this locker room, if not all of us, we all have interests outside of football. Andrew is an extremely bright guy, and I'm sure he'll have a lot of things to transition into. I know what it's like to deal with rehab and going through injuries. I've been on IR twice. It's tough. He was on it pretty much for an entire season and next offseason trying to get his arm back. Again, in my opinion, not playing with him but just reading what his teammates said, tough guy. What he went through to get himself back on the field is what it means to be a leader and I'm excited for him."

Colts Won't Try To Recoup $24.8M From Andrew Luck

Aug 25, 2019 10:14 PM

The Indianapolis Colts won't attempt to recoup the $24.8 million from Andrew Luck that could be available to them due to his retirement.

Luck and the Colts reached a financial settlement late last week.

Luck could have owed the Colts $12.8 million as a prorated portion of the $32 million signing bonus the Colts gave him when he signed his five-year extension in 2016, and another $12 million in roster bonuses he was paid in March.

Because of the poundings Luck has taken during his career, the Colts are essentially making this his parting gift.

Jim Irsay believes Luck is leaving nearly $500 million on the table by retiring.

"It's a tough thing. Look it, he's leaving $450 million on the table potentially," Irsay said. "I mean, a half a billion dollars, and he's saying, 'You know what, I want to have my integrity. I have to be able to look [wide receiver] T.Y. [Hilton] in the eye. Look my teammates, look Coach, look [GM] Chris [Ballard] and say, "I'm all in,"' and he just didn't feel he could do that."

Andrew Luck Likely To Miss Week 1 Of Regular Season

Aug 20, 2019 8:36 PM

The odds of Andrew Luck being ready for Week 1 of the regular season are appearing less likely.

"Really no further updates. All we have right now is a combination of full-speed movement and pain threshold," Frank Reich said.

Luck has practiced only three times -- none of them as a full participant -- since April due to what was originally diagnosed as a calf injury.

Jacoby Brissett will continue to be the Colts' starting quarterback if Luck, who has missed 26 games since 2015, remains out.
