Peterson Interested In Giants, Texans, Bucs If He Leaves Vikings

Jan 20, 2017 8:14 AM

Adrian Peterson would like to remain with the Minnesota Vikings but he openly talked about other teams he would consider in free agency, such as the New York Giants, Houston Texans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers .

"I see myself in purple. A lot has to take place," Peterson said on First Take on Thursday. "I see myself finishing off in purple. It is a business at the end of the day, so with that, things could end up differently. ... Hopefully we can work things out."

"There's a couple teams out there that I've thought about. ... New York was one of them that popped up, Tampa Bay, lot of different teams. Houston would be a good spot," Peterson said. "I'll stop right there. ... I'm just throwing random names out there."

The Vikings have a team option on Peterson for 2017 that includes an $11.75 million base salary and $6 million roster bonus. They have to decide on Peterson's 2017 option by the start of the league year and would owe him the $6 million roster bonus if he was on the team by the third day of the league year.

Texans Won't Hire New Offensive Coordinator

Jan 18, 2017 12:00 PM

The Houston Texans will not hire an offensive coordinator to replace the fired George Godsey as Bill O'Brien will call the plays next season.

The Texans have previously shifted defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel to an assistant head coach role so they can hang onto Mike Vrabel by making him the coordinator.

The Texans had an outstanding defense in 2016 but struggled with their quarterback play.

Texans Part Ways With Offensive Coordinator George Godsey

Jan 16, 2017 5:33 PM

The Houston Texans and offensive coordinator George Godsey "have mutually agreed to part ways," the team has announced.

Godsey called plays for the Texans through the first three games of the season before O'Brien took over after a 27-0 loss to the New England Patriots. Later in the season, O'Brien said the playcalling had become a combination of him and Godsey.

"I'm grateful for the tireless work ethic and contributions George has made to our team over the last three years," head coach Bill O'Brien said in a statement the team released. "I wish him nothing but the best in the future."

Vince Wilfork expects to retire this offseason following the Houston Texans' 34-16 loss to the New England Patriots.

"I think I have played my last NFL football game," Wilfork said. "I will take the time and do my due diligence and sit back and see if I really want to retire. We'll see. I don't know how long that will take.

"It doesn't change the fact that I enjoyed every bit of my career. I enjoyed 11 great years in New England and enjoyed two great years in Texas with unbelievable teammates."

Wilfork, 35, has made five Pro Bowls in his 13-year career and was a first-team All-Pro in 2012.

Bill O'Brien Uncertain On Future With Texans

Jan 13, 2017 8:26 PM

Bill O'Brien will coach the Houston Texans in the AFC Divisional round this weekend but his future with the team is uncertain.

There are growing tensions between O'Brien and both owner Bob McNair and general manager Rick Smith.

"I got home the other night and my wife (Colleen) asks me, 'Where are we living next year?' " O'Brien told me Monday during an interview that will air Saturday on NFL Network's "GameDay Morning". "Look, things are out there, and you can't control everything that's out there. I signed a five-year contract when I came here. I've enjoyed coaching here. We like living here. So at the end of the day, the Houston Texans are a place that we enjoy working.

"Whatever the future holds, it holds, but like I said, I have two years left on my contract, so we'll see what happens."

The San Francisco 49ers are the only team without a head coaching vacancy.

Jan 3, 2017 2:52 PM

The Houston Texans will start Brock Osweiler at quarterback against the Oakland Raiders in their playoff game on Saturday.

Osweiler replaced Tom Savage early in the second quarter Sunday in the loss to the Tennessee Titans after Savage left with a concussion.

"I thought Brock did some really good things on Sunday with his teammates and almost brought us all the way back," Bill O'Brien said. "So I thought he did a nice job, and we have a lot of confidence in him that he's going to go out there and play well on Saturday."
