Packers To Be More Aggressive In Free Agency

Jan 30, 2017 8:34 AM

The Green Bay Packers are expected to be more active in free agency than usual this offseason.

Aaron Rodgers has pressed Green Bay's front office to go all-in, emphasizing the "need to reload" for 2017.

"I would think the Packers are going to go and get some free agents this year along with trying to re-sign Jared Cook -- which is a priority for them," reports NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.

The Packers typically build through the draft, by re-signing their own players and using the free agent market with caution.

Packers Will Keep Ty Montgomery At RB

Jan 26, 2017 5:19 PM

The Green Bay Packers will continue to play Ty Montgomery at running back and he'll change his number from No. 88.

McCarthy said Montgomery expressed the desire to remain at that position when the two met this week during player-exit interviews.

"He's a running back, so he wants to change his number and that's the way we're going," McCarthy said. "So he'll spend the whole offseason clearly working at the running back position. Obviously, the ability to flex out and play receiver and those types of things will be his secondary responsibility. But he'll be on the depth chart as a running back."

Montgomery led the Packers in rushing with 457 yards on 77 carries, an average of 5.9 yards per carry.

Montgomery's role next season could depend on whether the Packers re-sign Eddie Lacy, who will be a free agent in March.

Aaron Rodgers Believes Packers Need To 'Reload A Little Bit'

Jan 24, 2017 8:11 AM

The Green Bay Packers were thumped by the Atlanta Falcons 44-21 in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday.

Afterward, Aaron Rodgers said Green Bay's roster needs some help, but not a wholesale rebuilding.

"We need to reload. I don't think we need to rebuild; we need to reload. We got a lot of players who are young. ... We just need to reload a little bit this offseason," the quarterback said.

Rodgers even went as far as to campaign for some of his younger teammates to remain on the roster.

"I think we had a lot of great contributions this season from guys we didn't expect starting the season out," Rodgers said. "You got Geronimo Allison, who had a very big year for us. Aaron Ripkowski was fantastic. Jared Cook, I think, needs to be near the top of the priority list, the way that he played this year. The offensive line, keeping those guys together was a big part of our success. I'm really proud of these guys. We battled. We had our backs against the wall for eight weeks in a row and won some big games. We just came up a little short."

Davante Adams' Status In Question Because Of Ankle Injury

Jan 19, 2017 6:57 AM

The Green Bay Packers don't know if they'll have Davante Adams for Sunday's NFC Championship Game after he injured his left ankle in the fourth quarter last weekend.

Mike McCarthy said Adams will be held out of practice for most of the week and instead will work with the group of players rehabbing injuries.

"I'm curious to see him move," McCarthy said. "I don't think he'll practice till Saturday."

Adams had five catches for 76 yards against the Dallas Cowboys.

The Packers were without Jordy Nelson in the divisional round due to a rib injury.

Aaron Rodgers Hoping Jordy Nelson Can Return If Packers Win

Jan 12, 2017 8:01 AM

Jordy Nelson hasn't officially been ruled out for Sunday's divisional playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys, but Aaron Rodgers hinted on Wednesday that the Green Bay Packers would have to win to give Nelson a chance to get back on the field.

Nelson, who sustained a significant rib injury in last Sunday's wild-card win over the New York Giants, did not practice on Wednesday.

"It's tough," Rodgers said. "We've played a lot of football together. You realize how important these opportunities are, how they don't come around every single year. We feel great about our team. Obviously, we feel better with 87 in the lineup. He's a classy guy and a great teammate. I was with him last night and the night before. He's staying positive and he's hopeful.

"We're going to try to get this one and hopefully get him back if he can't play this week."

Nelson led the Packers with 97 catches, 1,257 yards and 14 touchdowns during the regular season.

Jordy Nelson Suffers Two Broken Ribs, Doubtful For Cowboys' Game

Jan 9, 2017 8:32 PM

Jordy Nelson suffered two broken ribs in the Green Bay Packers' win over the New York Giants.

Nelson spent the night in the hospital.

"If he doesn't practice Saturday, then he won't play in the game," McCarthy said of Sunday's NFC divisional playoff matchup with the top-seeded Dallas Cowboys.

Leon Hall broke Nelson’s ribs when he lowered the crown of his helmet into Nelson’s body while Nelson was reaching up to try to catch a pass. Although Hall wasn’t flagged, he’s likely to be fined by the NFL.

Odell Beckham Jr. Punches Hole In Wall, Bangs Head On Door

Jan 9, 2017 1:55 AM

Odell Beckham Jr. allegedly punched a hole in a wall after the New York Giants' 38-13 playoff loss to the Packers in Green Bay.

Grounds crew members told Sal Paolantonio that they heard someone hitting the wall outside the crew's locker room at Lambeau Field, which is located adjacent to the interview room where Beckham had just spoken with reporters. When grounds crew members came out of the locker room, they saw Beckham and the hole in the wall.

Paolantonio said Beckham then banged his head against the door outside the Giants locker room.

NFL security is investigating the hole in the wall.

Prior to the incident, Beckham was calm and composed during his postgame media conference.

"These are the learning experiences, as tough as they are," Beckham said. "This is what you stand on and grow from. It sucks. There is no way to put it. It sucks. It is a horrible feeling."

Beckham had four catches for 28 yards on 11 targets while dropping a pair of passes, including one that would have been a touchdown in the first quarter.
