Nevin Lawson Flagged For Longest Pass Interference Call In 15 Seasons

Sep 26, 2016 8:26 AM

Detroit Lions defensive back Nevin Lawson was called for a 66-yard pass interference penalty against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, the longest such penalty in at least 15 years.

The previous long during that time period was a 60-yard pass interference call against Cleveland Browns cornerback Mike Adams in a 2010 game against the Baltimore Ravens.

ESPN Stats & Info's database begins with the 2001 season.

The penalty occurred on the first play of the second quarter after Aaron Rodgers threw incomplete on a deep pass to Trevor Davis. Lawson and Davis' feet got tangled as they fell to the ground.

Lawson said after the Lions' 34-27 loss that he felt he didn't make contact with the receiver and that they were both "playing the ball." Lawson said he wasn't grabbing or holding on the play and that he was "disappointed" when he saw the flag.

"I don't think I pass interferenced him," Lawson said. "Just seen the ball in the air, I didn't even see him, to be honest. I was just focusing on the ball. He tripped, and that's what they called."

Clay Matthews Ruled Out For Week 3

Sep 24, 2016 3:42 PM

Clay Matthews has been ruled out for the Green Bay Packers game in Week 3 against the Detroit Lions.

Matthews couldn't finish the Week 2 game at Minnesota. He injured his left ankle early in the game but returned after the Packers trainers taped it. However, he then took himself out of the game with less than two minutes remaining because of the hamstring injury.

Matthews did not practice all week.

Matthews last missed a game due to a hamstring injury late in the 2012 season.

Aaron Rodgers Hopes To Be Involved In Next CBA Negotiations

Sep 2, 2016 8:16 PM

Aaron Rodgers would like to get involved in CBA discussions during the next round of negotiations.

"It has to change," Rodgers said. "I don't know why the owners wouldn't want it to change, because it's made the league look bad a few times. I read something -- you know I said that I felt like we had the opportunity to make a change in the first CBA, and I stand behind that, that statement.

"Many guys I don't think were aware of how strong our position could have been had we waited a little longer. One of the things that we should have maybe pushed for was to have an independent arbitrator. I don't think we should have to give anything for that to happen in the next negotiation."

The current collective bargaining agreement ends after the 2020 season.

"If I'm fortunate enough to be around for the next one, I think it could be an opportunity to help out the next generation of players, by taking maybe more of a role in that," Rodgers said. "If it's wanted by the union, I would be open to it because I think we need some really strong leaders when we come back to the table, and realize that, as opposed to maybe the last time the CBA rolled around, that we have more bargaining power than we showed."
