PFF Gives Aaron Rodgers Negative Grade For Week 3

Sep 29, 2015 12:05 PM

Aaron Rodgers had an overall grade of -0.8 by Pro Football Focus.

Rodgers had 333 passing yards, five touchdowns, no interceptions and a 138.5 passer rating, which are simply video game numbers.

But PFF three of his touchdowns were thrown short of the end zone on speed outs to Randall Cobb that make for a zero-graded throw.

Rodgers had a fumble in the second quarter that earned a negative grade and he also had a throw early in the third quarter that should have been a pick-six for the Kansas City Chiefs.

"The greatness of Rodgers’ performance last night was in the intangibles," writes Stockwell. "Recognizing the blitz, drawing the defense offsides, catching the Chiefs in bad situations and exploiting those scenarios with simple passes to open receivers. But you cannot — and we do not try to — quantify intangibles, or what comes pre-snap. Our system grades what can be graded — the execution of the play post-snap — and in that regard Rodgers did not stand out in the same way that his statistics did."

Aaron Rodgers: God Was A Packer Fan Against Seahawks

Sep 22, 2015 1:44 AM

Aaron Rodgers sarcastically credited God for the Green Bay Packers' win in Week 2 over the Seattle Seahawks.

When the Seahawks beat the Packers in the NFC Championship, Russell Wilson gave credit to God for the win after he threw four interceptions.

“That’s God setting it up,” Wilson said, “to make it so dramatic, so rewarding, so special.”

Rodgers went 25-for-33 for 249 yards and two touchdowns.

“And then getting help from God,” Rodgers said. “I think God was a Packer fan tonight, so he was taking care of us.”

James Jones Sees Time With Giants As Tuneup For Packers' Return

Sep 18, 2015 2:48 PM

James Jones saw his time with the New York Giants as an ideal tuneup for returning to the Green Bay Packers.

Jones caught two touchdown passes in Week 1.

"I truly believe the Lord sent me to the Giants for a reason because it wasn't to make the team, it was to polish off all my skills," Jones told The MMQB. "I was on my couch for a minute, and then I was able to go to the Giants, where the playbook is almost identical because Ben McAdoo was with the Packers for so long, and he took that offense over there. I was able to polish off all the rust, play in some games and able to get in football shape. So when I came here, it was all second nature. There were a couple new plays that Aaron had put in and a couple new signals, but we talked about that and were able to get on the same page with that."

Rodgers: West Coast Offense About Finding Highest Percentage Option

Sep 9, 2015 8:19 PM

Aaron Rodgers has thrown 139 touchdowns against just 25 interceptions over the past four years.

“I was always pretty good with the football,” Rodgers said. “My touchdown to interception ratio, I think, was 24-to-8 my junior year at Cal, 19-to-5 my sophomore year. And I was 28-to-4 at Butte College. I don’t remember what I was in high school but I was probably about 2-to-1.

“I knew that from eighth grade, when I started playing football, and on, the only way I was going to be able to stay on the field was if I made good decisions and didn’t turn the ball over. I was in a three-way quarterback competition as an eighth-grader and I got the job in the third week. I threw an interception on the first drive, but was able to hold on to the job somehow. I was in a quarterback competition at Butte Junior College and a quarterback competition at Cal and I knew decision-making was the way I was going to be able to stay out on the field. It’s about calculated risks.

“Here, I think the structure of the offense helps. With the West Coast offense, there is an answer for every defense and it’s about finding the highest percentage throw on each play. That’s why we don’t have one go-to guy. We had two guys with 90-plus catches last year but we don’t have a go-to guy. We might have a go-to guy on plays, but it’s all about matchups and finding the high-percentage pass on that play. It might not be a pass to a guy who is necessarily open, but it could be the highest percentage pass based on the coverage and that is what the West Coast offense allows you to do. A lot of time here is a conceptual to one side, and then there is an option on the backside—it could be a go route or a double move. And you always have your check downs involved as well. We’ve just learned that over the years in this system that in order to get to where we want to go, you need to find where that highest percentage option is before that play.”

Rodgers has long been one of the NFL's best quarterbacks, but he also enjoys the collaborative nature of the job with his coaches.

“Throwing six interceptions in a season, throwing five interceptions in a season and both years, over 38 touchdown passes, that is pretty hard to do,” said Rodgers. “But a lot of that comes back to the guys coaching you, too. Jeff Tedford in college, Mike and Joe and Tom and Alex… like I said, I love being coached. I love talking football with smart coaches. I love the input, the dialogue, the conversation. I love feeling like I need to play well for my coach, like he is expecting me to play well. It’s fun to be able to make all those coaches proud.”

James Jones Agrees To Sign With Packers

Sep 6, 2015 9:34 PM

James Jones has agreed to sign with the Green Bay Packers.

"I'm only one year removed," Jones said Sunday shortly after he got off the plane at Austin Straubel Airport. "It seems like 10 years, but time will wait. Get with Aaron. I'm sure they probably have some new stuff. We'll see what happens, but let's make it happen first."

Jones last played for the Packers in 2013, when he caught 59 passes for 817 yards and three touchdowns.

Jones left in free agency the following offseason to sign a three-year, $10 million deal with the Oakland Raiders, who cut him after just one season.

Jones signed with the New York Giants in July but didn't make their final cuts.
