Packers Impressed With Their Own Depth

Nov 2, 2014 12:25 PM

The Green Bay Packers have been impressed with their own depth during the preseason. ?We have to be one of the deepest defenses as a whole of any team I?ve seen,? said A.J. Hawk. ?And that?s a good thing. That?s why you see us, especially in these early preseason games, playing well the whole game. There?s not a dropoff. We have a bunch of guys who can play.? ?We still have a long way to go. We were barely able to finish the game last (Saturday) night, so you don?t ever get very cocky about stuff like that,? Ted Thompson said of the roster depth. ?(But) we?ve been pretty clear all along that we felt like our 80-man roster was pretty solid.?

Favre Felt 'A Little Odd' In Vikings Debut

Nov 2, 2014 12:25 PM

Brett Favre admitted that he was nervous prior to his debut for the Vikings against the Chiefs on Friday. "All of a sudden I started having butterflies," Favre told the Star-Tribune. "That was probably the oddest thing. I was talking to my oldest daughter and she was telling me good luck and all this stuff. I said, 'I'm nervous.' She said, 'Oh, you'll be fine.' I just don't want to screw up." Minnesota defeated Kansas City 17-13, with Favre going 1-for-4. "It felt a little odd, so many years being on the other side," Favre said. "But I thought it was a welcome reception. I know in the long run, we'll be judged on wins and losses. I'm well aware of that. This is a tough place to play. It's nice to be on the other side. It was a little loud when we were on offense, too. But I think this place is just loud, period."

The Packers are getting closer to signing rookie B.J. Raji to a contract, a source told the Press Gazette on Sunday. The talks have picked up in part because the Broncos signed Knowshon Moreno, the 12th overall pick, on Friday. Moreno received a five-year contract that included a reported $13 million in guaranteed money and is worth $23 million total. The Denver running back is the closest player taken after Raji, who was taken 9th overall, to sign.

Packers Legitimately Considering Signing Vick

Nov 2, 2014 12:26 PM

The Packers are doing thorough due diligence on Michael Vick and has had legitimate discussions about the idea of signing him, according to sources. Asked Tuesday during the first of his weekly news conferences during training camp if there was any way he?d entertain signing Vick, Thompson answered with the non-committal reply he frequently uses when asked about potential personnel moves. His response made national headlines because it wasn?t a flat-out ?no,? but it also didn?t shed much light on the Packers? interest level. ?Uh, what is the answer that we give to questions like this?? Thompson said. ?We?re always looking to improve our team. We look at all options at all times. I wouldn?t care to speculate in terms of the odds or the percentages or anything like that.? Thompson was vague in follow-up questions, saying the Packers ?look at everything? and ?have had discussions about a large number of things. ... It doesn?t mean any more that we are likely to do it or less likely. It?s a routine that we go through. It?s automatic.?

Packers Won't Rule Out Vick

Nov 2, 2014 12:34 PM

Green Bay general manager Ted Thompson didn't rule out signing quarterback Michael Vick on Tuesday. That doesn't mean the Packers are pursuing Vick, but they are one of just a handful of teams that haven't publicly ruled out the former Falcons star. "We look at everything," Thompson told the Associated Press.
