Ten-Year DVOA Rankings: Denver Broncos

Aug 26, 2018 9:00 PM

Beyond strictly looking at wins and losses, DVOA by Football Outsiders gives a clear picture of team performance.

The following Infographic shows the past 10 years of DVOA rankings (2008-2017) for the Denver Broncos.

The Broncos were ranked 24th in DVOA during that final Tim Tebow season but then spiked to 2nd for three straight seasons when Peyton Manning arrived. Denver only dropped to 14th in their first season without Manning and then all the way down to 29th in 2017.

John Elway: Colin Kaepernick Had His Chance To Join Broncos In 2016

Aug 16, 2018 2:45 PM

The Denver Broncos pursued Colin Kaepernick in the past and they don't appear to view him as a viable veteran backup quarterback now since he turned down that opportunity.

The Broncos attempted to trade for Kaepernick in 2016 before his anthem protests began.

“Colin had his chance here," said John Elway. "We offered him a contract. He didn’t take it. So, As I said it in my deposition, I don’t know if i’ll be legally able to say this, but he’s had his chance to be here. He passed it."

Broncos May Pursue Veteran Quarterback

Aug 16, 2018 8:18 AM

The Denver Broncos might look to add a veteran quarterback to serve as the backup for Case Keenum.

They recently promoted Chad Kelly to No. 2, demoting Paxton Lynch in the process.

"I'm not going to tell you we're definitely going to stand pat, but I'm not telling you we're going (in) that direction, either," John Elway told 103.5 The Fox in Denver.

Kelly has outperformed Lynch, but Elway isn't sure either would be ready to step in should Keenum get injured.

"We've got to have confidence that that guy that's going to be the backup can play and win football games," Elway said. "And so that's why we're still in that process of trying to see if we've got that guy behind Case.

"Even though Chad played very well on Saturday night -- we'll see how he does this week -- but if something were to happen to Case, can he come in and continue to win football games for us? That's the big part of the evaluation process and that's still going on."

Demaryius Thomas 'Passionate About' Remaining In Tunnel During Anthem

Aug 16, 2018 8:14 AM

Demaryius Thomas chose to stay in the tunnel during the national anthem prior to Saturday night's preseason game, breaking from Von Miller's assertion in May that the Denver Broncos would stand as a team.

"It wasn't a decision," Thomas said. "It's just that I always had it on my mind. Not even this year, but last year. It's just something I've dealt with growing up, racism as a kid, kind of still do as a grown up and my family still deals with it today and doesn't get justice. It's something I've dealt with, my family has dealt with and others around the country have dealt with so much. It's just tough to see that, because I'm one who wants to put out love to everybody. I don't see color. I don't see none of that. To see people get hurt and not get justice is sad."

A handful of protests took place during the anthem in the first full week of the preseason.

"I don't think it was a right or wrong time," Thomas added. "It's what I was going to do.

"... It's what I feel passionate about. People bash me about playing football. They talk about my game, and it's what I do everyday. It is what it is. I don't pay attention to it. I don't pay attention to social media and TV and all that stuff."
