Manning Didn't Want To Make More Money Than Brady

Oct 14, 2014 6:08 AM

Peyton Manning instructed his agent to not ask for more money than Tom Brady when he negotiated his new contract in 2012.

When Manning decided to sign with the Denver Broncos, he asked his agent Tom Condon: "What does Tom Brady make?"

"$18 million a year," Condon replied, according to MMQB.com.

"Then I don't want to make a penny more than that," Manning said.

The Broncos' offer was for $19.4 million annually.

Condon believed he could command $25 million per season for Manning.

Emmanuel Sanders has agreed to a deal with the Denver Broncos.

Sanders had reached a verbal agreement with the Kansas City Chiefs earlier in the day, but his agent, Steve Weinberg, then engaged in negotiations with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Weinberg never told the Buccaneers that he had accepted a deal with Chiefs.

"This was one of the worst situations in modern football negotiations," one executive involved said. "Totally wrong. This needs to be stopped."

Jared Allen Could Sign Quickly With Broncos

Oct 26, 2014 3:14 AM

Jared Allen will not return to the Minnesota Vikings next season and will test free agency.

Allen would be a natural fit for the Denver Broncos and a source says he would be "shocked" if he doesn't sign there.

Allen had 23.5 sacks from 2012-2013, and 22 sacks in 2011, earning him the 2011 NFC Defensive Player of the Year award.

Allen has expressed a preference to play for a contending team in 2014.

Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports reports that the Broncos will make strong push for Allen.

Broncos Release Champ Bailey

Oct 30, 2014 11:29 AM

The Denver Broncos have released Champ Bailey.

Bailey wasn't offered a pay cut by the Broncos as the franchise decided to move on. The Broncos save $10 million on the cap in releasing Bailey.

Bailey was acquired by the Broncos in a trade with the Washington Redskins in 2004 for Clinton Portis.

Bailey is a 12-time Pro Bowler and seven-time All-Pro at cornerback.

Bailey turns 36 in June and almost certainly would need to move to safety or be strictly a dime cornerback to continue his playing career.
