Seahawks Want To Make Manning Move, Hold Ball Longer

Sep 13, 2014 3:34 AM

Peyton Manning has been hit less than any other passer in the NFL this season, which has been a result of his quick passes and a strong offensive line for the Denver Broncos.

Pete Carroll said Thursday that the Seattle Seahawks "need to move" Manning early, but coordinator Dan Quinn pointed less to the pass rush and more to Seattle's potent man-to-man and press coverage as the best way to keep receivers out of open spaces.

Said Quinn: "If we can hold that extra click, that's what we know is important to us."

Demaryius Thomas Hopes For Matchup Against Sherman

Nov 2, 2014 12:40 PM

Demaryius Thomas hopes to be defended by Richard Sherman in the Super Bowl.

The Seattle Seahawks don't typically move their corners around to match up with a specific receiver.

Peyton Manning also generally picks on the most advantageous matchup on the field, so there will likely be better options than Thomas against Sherman.

Climatologist Expects 'Very Cold' Super Bowl Week

Nov 27, 2014 12:11 PM

The NFL hosts its first cold city Super Bowl this year in New Jersey.

“Super Bowl week will be very cold,” said Rutgers' climatologist David Robinson. “We’re set up for a wintry couple of weeks. It’s going to be cold and occasionally stormy. It’s too early to say whether we’re going to be in a tranquil pattern or unsettled pattern on the day of the game. By this time next week, we should know more about whether there’s the potential for an impactful storm”

New Jersey had a temperature of 73 degrees on Dec. 21, the first day of winter, but it fell by 50 degrees on Christmas Day.

Robinson said that if southern moisture coalesces with Arctic air, snow could fall at the Super Bowl.

“The introduction of moisture from the south increases the odds of a meaningful storm,” said Robinson. “You can’t really lock in anything yet in terms of storms but our long range models suggest that we’re going to be on the cold side of normal into the first couple of weeks of February.”

Divisional Round Games Average 34.3M Viewers

Oct 15, 2014 6:37 PM

The NFL's four Divisional Round playoff games averaged 34.3 million viewers.

Sunday's coverage on CBS of the Denver Broncos' win over the San Diego Chargers pulled 41.2 million, followed by the San Francisco 49ers' victory over the Carolina Panthers at 33.3 million viewers.

On Saturday, the New England Patriots defeat of the Indianapolis Colts drew 31.7 million viewers and the Seattle Seahawks' win over the New Orleans Saints drew 31.1 million.

The numbers are down slightly from the Wild Card weekend in which 35 million viewers was the average. The Divisional Round games were not as close, which is the likely cause for the drop in ratings.
