Decker: Broncos Can Focus On Football Without Tebow

Oct 28, 2014 7:28 PM

With Tim Tebow in New York, the Broncos seem excited to focus on football instead of the popular quarterback. "To be honest with you it is nice just to kind of focus back on football, and we talk football and there's not - there's still a lot of excitement here with the football," wide receiver Eric Decker told 102.3 in Denver. "I mean, he is a great teammate. I respect him greatly. But again, like you were saying, a lot of the focus right now is on football, is really talking about how we're gonna form this team to win some ball games next year." Demaryius Thomas made similar comments earlier this offseason.

Manning Taking Over Teaching Role For Broncos

Sep 14, 2014 5:47 AM

In his first OTA sessions with the Broncos, Peyton Manning was more of a teacher than he was a quarterback. Coming off a career-threatening neck injury, Manning has spent the practices teaching his new teammates how he plans to lead them as the offense evolves towards the system he ran during his time with the Colts. "I can't tell you how important these OTAs are," Manning said. "They're important to everybody. But when you're a new player, on a new team, coming off an injury, they take on added importance. I thought today was an excellent start."

Elway: Osweiler Was 'Long-Term' Pick

Jul 25, 2014 11:48 PM

John Elway couldn't pass on Peyton Manning's heir apparent at quarterback, even though he hopes Brock Osweiler will be a backup for a number of years. The Broncos executive said he had to "sacrifice the short-term for the long-term" when he used a second-round pick last month on the Arizona State quarterback. "It's a perfect situation where there's not the pressure for him to come in and start right away," Elway said. "He's not ready for that. But he's also going to learn from Peyton and ... I think it's a great learning experience for him to where we are set for the future. "And he's our guy for the future," he added. "And sometimes we have to sacrifice the short-term for the long-term to grab the guy that you believe can be that next guy for you, and that's Brock Osweiler."

"Everybody knows he's one of the best in the game, a future Hall of Famer," Thomas said. "I feel like just being out there with him, it helped because it seemed like he knew what was going on. He answered questions and he was like another coach because I was learning stuff from him that I didn't know. I feel like he's going to help me out this year."
