Peyton, Receivers Struggle At OTAs

Decker: Broncos Can Focus On Football Without Tebow
With Tim Tebow in New York, the Broncos seem excited to focus on football instead of the popular quarterback. "To be honest with you it is nice just to kind of focus back on football, and we talk football and there's not - there's still a lot of excitement here with the football," wide receiver Eric Decker told 102.3 in Denver. "I mean, he is a great teammate. I respect him greatly. But again, like you were saying, a lot of the focus right now is on football, is really talking about how we're gonna form this team to win some ball games next year." Demaryius Thomas made similar comments earlier this offseason.
Manning Taking Over Teaching Role For Broncos
In his first OTA sessions with the Broncos, Peyton Manning was more of a teacher than he was a quarterback. Coming off a career-threatening neck injury, Manning has spent the practices teaching his new teammates how he plans to lead them as the offense evolves towards the system he ran during his time with the Colts. "I can't tell you how important these OTAs are," Manning said. "They're important to everybody. But when you're a new player, on a new team, coming off an injury, they take on added importance. I thought today was an excellent start."
Moreno Fighting For Spot With Broncos
Fighting his way back from a torn ACL, Knowshon Moreno isn't sure where he'll be playing next season. The former first-round pick is "fighting for a roster spot" with the Broncos, according to Lindsay Jones of The Denver Post. Willis McGahee remains Denver's starter and Lance Ball was productive last season.
Broncos Acquire Chris Gronkowski From Colts
The Broncos have traded defensive back Cassius Vaughn to the Colts for fullback Chris Gronkowski. Denver executive John Elway announced the deal Wednesday on Twitter, saying: "Our team has a lot of depth in the secondary and this is an opportunity for us to add a quality fullback to our roster."
Manning Shows Zip On Throws At OTAs
Peyton Manning has been on target with his throws at Denver's first OTA workout. Manning ran the offensive practice, lining up receivers, running backs and even fellow quarterbacks during the team's workout Monday.
Broncos, Clady Addressing Extension
The Broncos have opened contract-extension talks with Ryan Clady, according to several sources. The left tackle is in the final year of his deal that will pay him $3.5 million in 2012. The franchise tag for left tackles this season was $9.4 million. While the Broncos and Clady's agent are talking, it may be a while before the two sides are close to an agreement.
Elway: Osweiler Was 'Long-Term' Pick
John Elway couldn't pass on Peyton Manning's heir apparent at quarterback, even though he hopes Brock Osweiler will be a backup for a number of years. The Broncos executive said he had to "sacrifice the short-term for the long-term" when he used a second-round pick last month on the Arizona State quarterback. "It's a perfect situation where there's not the pressure for him to come in and start right away," Elway said. "He's not ready for that. But he's also going to learn from Peyton and ... I think it's a great learning experience for him to where we are set for the future. "And he's our guy for the future," he added. "And sometimes we have to sacrifice the short-term for the long-term to grab the guy that you believe can be that next guy for you, and that's Brock Osweiler."
Demaryius Thomas Views Peyton As A Coach
Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas says that Peyton Manning functions as both a quarterback and coach with the franchise. "Everybody knows he's one of the best in the game, a future Hall of Famer," Thomas said. "I feel like just being out there with him, it helped because it seemed like he knew what was going on. He answered questions and he was like another coach because I was learning stuff from him that I didn't know. I feel like he's going to help me out this year."
