Elway Reiterates Tebow To Start, But Wants QB Competition

Oct 16, 2014 4:22 AM

Despite naming Tim Tebow the team's starting quarterback heading into the 2012 season, John Elway says that any player added to the Denverroster this offseason will compete for a starting role. "We will be in the market to find more quarterbacks," Elway said. "That's our approach with Tim being our starter as we go to training camp, that we'll look at free agency and the draft." Elway said that his ideal quarterback is the "the big athlete who can throw the ball from the pocket." "Anybody who comes in at any position is going to think they have a chance to compete," Elway told The Denver Post. "Any free agent or anybody that comes in here when we start training camp is going to be competing for jobs. "Obviously with Tim's reputation, if the guy is afraid to come in and compete for that job, then maybe he's not the right guy."

Von Miller Fined $7,500 For Unnecessary Roughness

Jun 12, 2014 5:29 AM

Broncos rookie linebacker Von Miller has been fined $7,500 by the NFL for unnecessary roughness in the team's 45-10 loss to the Patriots last Saturday night. Miller lost his cool after New England quarterback Tom Brady punted on third down late in the game. He shoved New England's Dan Connolly seemingly without being provoked. That started a melee that spilled over to the New England sideline. Miller was fined at least $47,500 in his rookie season. He was fined $25,000 for a hit on Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez in November, weeks after being fined $15,000 for a hit on Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer.

Tebow Played Through Rib, Lung Injuries Against Patriots

May 18, 2014 4:26 AM

Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow played through considerable injuries in Saturday night's AFC divisional playoff game against the Patriots. At the start of the third quarter, Tebow tore cartilage on his first rib where it attaches to his sternum, bruised his lung and had fluid buildup in the plural space of his chest, according to a source. The injuries came as the result of a hit in the pocket when Tebow was pressured after throwing a pass. He was determined to finish the game regardless of the score. New England went on to win 45-10. Because of the severe pain, Tebow had trouble sleeping over the weekend, then spent Monday undergoing an MRI on his chest to determine the extent of the damage.

Decker Declares Hit From Harrison As Legal

Jun 14, 2014 11:15 PM

Broncos wide receiver Eric Decker, who suffered a sprained knee in the team's Wild Card playoff win over the Steelers last weekend, says the hit he received from linebacker James Harrison was legal. The hit left him with a sprained left knee. "I think it was unfortunate now with the new rules, guys are scared to hit high, especially Harrison, being fined so much. He had to go low," Decker said. "It stinks. I'd rather get hit high, to be honest with you, because as a receiver, my legs are my investment. But at the same time, I'm not upset or mad at what he did."
