Elway Interested In Ownership Role

Oct 2, 2014 3:00 AM

Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway is interested in becoming a minority investor in the Broncos. If he can't purchase a stake in ownership of his former team, he'll look at other potential deals. "That's always a possibility, but it really depends on what Pat's going to do," Elway told the Denver Post. "Would I like to be a part owner? Yes. I'd like for it to happen here. If not, and there is an opportunity somewhere else, I'd definitely look at that, too." Elway, who has visited practices and built a rapport with coach Josh McDaniels, said he wants to be more involved. "I've really enjoyed being around John," McDaniels said. "He means so much to the Broncos, Denver and the NFL. We've had fun, and I look forward to John having a relationship with the Broncos, Pat Bowlen and me well into the future. .. He is the greatest Bronco of all time and someone all our players should know and respect. We can benefit from John's knowledge, presence and experience."

Gaffney Could Be Denver's Top Receiver

Jun 11, 2014 5:34 PM

Jabar Gaffney isn't satisfied with his 2009 season, but it was one of his personal best. Gaffney played in all 16 games for the seventh time in his career and caught at least one pass in 14 contests. "I hope that we have a lot of guys that end up being our No. 1 receiver at different times during the year," coach Josh McDaniels said. Gaffney says having a year in Denver's offense helps him. "The more you're in it, the more comfortable you feel in it, the more you understand what you can and can't do and realize what the defense is doing a little bit faster. Hopefully I'll be able to go out there and recognize stuff and be able to get to the right place and feel comfortable doing it, knowing we're going to make the right play," he said.

Broncos Haven't Approached Bailey About New Deal

Oct 2, 2014 2:39 AM

The Broncos have yet to approach longtime cornerback Champ Bailey about a new contract. Bailey is entering the final year of his contract. "Are we disappointed the Broncos have not approached us about a contract extension? Obviously, we are," said Jack Reale, Bailey's agent. "A player of Champ's caliber deserves to have the option of an extended contract. This is a guy who essentially was a six-time Pro Bowler (if not for an injury in 2008) in his six years there. Anyone with any kind of football knowledge knows his skills have not diminished, as evidenced by the fact he didn't allow one touchdown in 80 passes thrown his way last year, played in 98 percent of the snaps and remains one of the best-tackling cornerbacks in the game."
